PIRATEHAIRWAVES EPILOGUE
Like looking at a brand new animal, not yet discovered, that has been locked in the dark, fed on satellite TV and with no blockbuster membership card
PirateHairWaves (PHW) combine the experience of a melted down brainstorm, with rewired visual scores and loops to produce some of the most challenging mash ups seen in recent years.
The work seems to be a response to the bile that is surrounding us, the mental and visual pollution that cages us, as it holds us in its shiny hands, offering us moments of freedom, which is then spat in our faces in the form of numbing TV specials, celebrity endorsed operations, making a nation more paranoid, a nation who feels that happiness comes with ripping down your walls in the front room
The films by PHW use this pool to produce incredible works, from Sammy a Sammy Davies Jnr tap-dancing cut up, to the deeply moving 14 months with found images, montaged from a go-go dancer stuck in a loop, never finding her next move with an overlay of napalm carpet bombing, creating a work that reacts to the media, to documentation and to the visual clatter we see all around us.
Refusing to stay in one pocket, PHW has worked and collaborated on many various projects. This shows flexibility and a willingness to understand other creative types. Works ranging from shows in galleries, nightclubs, cinemas and bars from around the globe with a different array of artists.
