Sounds Like: "It kind of made me want to die."......."The chap with the microphone delivered a painful improvised 15 minute spoken word preamble. It included the words "this is punk". His companion remained hunched over his devices and did not face the audience. When their electronic wailing static finally began the fellow with the microphone jumped onto a table, sending glasses flying. Then he ran out of the room and collided with a ladder before falling over. I closed my eyes and tried to absorb the noise. When I opened them, most of the audience had left the room"......... "I don't know if they're a piss take or what, but they keep turning up on bills and wasting people's time"..... "They certainly puzzled and annoyed a few people with that extended ambient mono-drone set they played at last year's Supersonic."...."He played one long feedback screen with the pitch occasionaly changing a little bit. Again, nothing in particular was achieved."..... "Never met esquilax but their whole shtick reeks of band wagon jumping"..........."They were simply grind when I first saw them(which I believe was their first show) then saw them again as a trio and they were still grind, they were equally shite both times. So they do drone as a duo now? That's hilarious."........."First onstage were esquilax, consisting of two electric guitars overdriven to the point of eliminating all trace of musical content, and a bloke in a red shirt wandering around going "waaaarrgh aaaaarrrgh graaaAArghhh! Every now and then they'd pause to thoughtfully adjust their effects module, under the pretense that it made some sort of difference."............."I saw esquilax at the Trencher gig recently and they didn't move me at all. Yes, their music was very heavy, very noisy, and very 'extreme', but it washed over me like muzak and didn't provoke any kind of reaction. I was neither engaged and drawn in, nor repelled by their sounds- it may aswell have been the background noise of a road drill outside. That to me, is hardly the definition of extreme."............"We do arrive in time to hear a DJ playing the world's most ominous chord. For 35 minutes. Everyone claps politely at the end."......"Their set that night involved the democratic passing of the microphone among members of the audience so that they too could join in with the vocalist's cathartic primal screaming"..... "I am interested in seeing esquilax because the man posing angrily with a guitar in the programme is the same man i've seen getting on my tram into Birmingham. I know this because he has a very tall wedge/fin/mohawk finely balanced by a pretty unnecessary beard- which is fine if you like that kind of thing. I don't. I do in fact see him wandering around the venue, but when it comes down to it, someone else appears onstage, playing with a tiny something or other at the front of the huge stage outside. We assume it's a roadie tweaking a piece of kit until the constant whining sound finishes half an hour later."............" Using an array of cheap instruments, bad FX and colourful toys they produce a relentless squall of horrible noise, a sonic approximation of the distilled essence of three pissed off geeks."............." The heady heights of pretentiousness were set early on in the event and in some style. Described as Lightning Bolt put through a blender with Agoraphobic Nosebleed, frankly the mere thought of esquilax gave us a stiffy. Sadly, all we got was some tosspot sat, head down, playing with an effects box for forty minutes."..............."esquilax is just noise. It's not music."...................... " I like watching people leave their gigs in disgust after a matter of seconds"............. "I think saying esquilax was shit is too generous. I'd say more disgraceful. You gotta be a dickhead to put that on above bands that actually have the talent to play an instrument at least." ......" I just get sick of these avant garde noise for noise's sake bands like Esquilax"................. "later talked to other members of the band who explained that they couldn't be arsed playing so one of them did the drone set. This is not an unusual state of affairs for them, sometimes the band is made up of 10 people playing broken toy instruments."........." The soundman left halfway through Esquilax's set in disgust. When Matt (Esquilax) started screaming, he came running back in to save his precious speakers and dropped his pint."......."There's only one of them now. He plays a set of fifteen minutes of what seems like a plane coming into land and I just don't get it."......."Everytime I have seen this band/person/whatever its been fucking dreadful. Went from "grind" to "drone" to "noise" and made terribly boring and pointless music each time! Totally fucking terrible! the guy(s) seem alright, but I'm sorry, they make really dreadful music!"........"Matt did an esquilax noise set in Stourbridge that was so evil - it literally made me and my friends feel sick with some of the frequencies he attained."........."kneeling with his back to the audience and creating one long feedback scree. By ‘long’ I mean ‘the whole set."
