of five, when his parents returned to their native country. There he
learned the Jamaican style made popular by Eric Monty Morris and Bob
Marley, and the R & B from the likes of Sam Cooke, Otis Redding,
Curtis Mayfield, Chuck Jackson and Marvin Gaye, although his first singing inspiration came from Paul Anka. Coffie came to the
United States in 1973. He served eight years in the U.S. Army before
leaving it to pursue his dream of a professional music career.
During the next two decades, he recorded eight albums, earned
numerous gold and platinum albums and singles, and set international
chart records. Following his 1993 Grammy Award for "Bad Boys," he
was again nominated for the album "Reggae Dancer" in 1994. He
currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife Sharon and travel
