About Katie Marie
by Katie Marie
Well, I wasn't one of those cute kids you just knew was destined to be on stage. I mean, I took dance for about six months, decided I didn't like wearing the tutu, and that was that! No one even knew I could even carry a tune, until I was eleven and took my first acting class at a summer theater camp near home. The first time I was called up to sing in front of the class, I was nervous. I didn't think I could do it...but, I did, and there has been no stopping me since! Now I love it! I've been singing and performing for about four years, and there is no doubt in my mind that it is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Now, I'm just turning 16, and I'm managing to keep very busy with schoolwork, friends, youth group and church, and music...not necessarily in that order. I'm one of those girls who would rather play tag football in sweat-pants instead of shopping any day...but it's still fun to get all dressed up every once in a while! I am very excited about my new CD too! It has three of the coolest Christian songs on it...plus, I got to record in Nashville, which was a dream come true! I just want to give a shout-out and big thanks to Justin Glasco, a super-talented musician and friend who produced my CD right in his studio. And thanks to Jay Wilkinson III , who did all the mixing and took care of all the technical stuff! The newest song on here, "Father", was Co-written by Justin Glasco and Katie Marie (That's me!). It's a beautiful song that reminds anyone whose father has left, or just isn't around, that God can fill that empty space that you might feel. By the way, Justin and Jason Johnson co-wrote “Indiana Skyâ€, an awesome song, and Brian Hardin and Paul Alan wrote “Joy Ride†and “Hopes are Highâ€. Thanks guys...awesome songs!!
So far, I've sung the National Anthem about 100 times over the last couple of years at various sporting and community events. Some of the coolest teams to sing for were the Pittsburgh River Hounds Soccer team, and for the Wheeling Nailers Hockey team. I've also participated in a couple of telethons for great causes including the “Helping Hands†telethon broadcast from The Poconos. I was also a Semi-finalist for the 2005 “Exalting Him†competition out in Philadelphia, PA. Some groups I've opened up for were the awesomely talented Deanna Dawn Denning, my new favorite country band NOMaD (North of Mason Dixon), The Drifters, and The Marcels. I've performed at various Christian and community events, my favorite being on the boardwalk down at Carolina Beach. I really felt that people were being reached...which was awesome!
As I listen to some music today, it's so sad to hear some of the negative messages that come along with it. My goal with my music is to perform songs with a positive message, and to spread the word of God to those who need it. There are so many teens who listen to those songs with negative messages and end up lost. Even if I can just help one person turn his or her life around with my music, that would be more than I could ask for. :)
