Funktional Dubs

It’s 1999. Drum and Bass has exploded all over Canada and the world. In virtually every major city, you can head out into the midnight world of electronic music and hear the pounding of breakbeats and bass, the hallmarks of the Drum and Bass sound.
Enter Funktion.
A self-taught, self-styled turntablist from the start, Funktion began his foray into Drum and Bass as a result of the years of attending raves and hearing different sounds, his ear grew keen to the breaks and bass of Drum and Bass.
He has been maintaining his passion and vigour for drum and bass music for 7 years, constantly striving to learn a variety of new skills and techniques for producing great tracks.
Funktion landed his first gig in 2004, spinning classic DnB tracks at a nightclub in Hamilton, his hometown.
In November of 2005, in an effort to further his own skills and production methods, he sought out Target, a well-known drum and bass producer also from Hamilton.
In 2006, unsatisfied with the current promotion companies of the time, Funktion decided to start his own, Nocturnal Corruption, and is now putting on events at various Hamilton clubs and underground locations. Through Nocturnal Corruption, Funktion has been able to support local talent, showcasing various DJs and producers from both his hometown and Toronto (Ryan Ruckus, Robb G, DJ Spinz to name a few), in addition to furthering his own performance abilities.
During the summer of 2006, Funktion teamed up with Target and Matty Cee on some one-off jams supporting talent abroad.
Over the course of the last year, Funktion has had his tunes played by Jekz and DJ X2C on Hydestudios’ “Aftershock Radio”, Darkside Flow on Kunninmindz, Cabbie has dropped his dubs on Kool FM, and Leetradio’s itchyfingazz has played his tracks on the air as well. Funktion also posts his own personal tracks on MySpace.com, letting everyone know the kind of tunes he is capable of producing.
Funktion has also received positive feedback regarding his tunes from the likes of Erb N Dub (Urban Takeover), Ragga Twins, Bassdrive’s Ashatack, and Ruff Stuff (V. Records, Chronic, Movement, Kool FM).
With his love for the music, his passion for producing and with the help and influence of Target, Funktion is poised take his place in the world of drum and bass.
