Reverse Engineering

Abstract Hip Hop from Mars

About Me

Following the success of two EPs released in September 2004 and November 2005, Swiss-based production genius trio Reverse Engineering are back with their highly anticipated debut studio album “Duck & Cover“. “Duck & Cover” is the follow-up to the successful collaboration Ep with the much respected Washington-based underground MC BLU RUM 13, well-known for his appearances on production works by artists such as Luke Vibert, Mr Thing, Amon Tobin, and DJ Vadim with whom he scours the world stages and works together as a band under the project One Self (Ninja Tune). BLU RUM also collaborated with Kid Koala on the Bullfrog project.

Notably influenced by the electronic scene, RE explores the dark sides of instrumental hip hop and mainly focus on heavy and aggressive rhythms that build up the backbone of their pieces.

Born in 2002 under the hand of producers David Pieffet & Alain Decrevel, the project is from its beginning completely turned towards the live-act. DJ G-Bart joined the duo later and provides a significant addition to the live shows with his very own turntablism style.

With the experience acquired during numerous live appearances and the massive positive feedbacks they received under their belt, RE decided to start working on a studio release. In parallel, they provided themselves with new tools to refine their compositions and start exploring new grounds, collaborating with singers, MC’s and even rock bands. Reverse Engineering performed more than 80 live shows between 2003 and 2006, including support act of prestigious artists issued from labels such as Ninja Tune, Warp, Mo Wax, Jarring Effects or !K7 (DJ Vadim, Amon Tobin, DJ Krush, Airborn Audio, Cinematic Orchestra, Luke Vibert, Mira Calix, Unkle, High Tone, Ez3kiel, Mike Ladd, techno animal, blockhead, sixtoo, Kid 606…).

The visual aspect has also its importance in Reverse Engineering’s concept. Their live shows includes video projections of science fiction or sword movies which transcribe their sound universe on the projector screen.

“Duck & Cover” brings together intelligent electronic and underground hip-hop, the whole built up with massive electric bass sounds, heavy electronic soundscapes and saturated hip-hop beats, and with their very personal signature.
