For those of you who don't remember or know, the name 'Lovesexy' comes from the Prince album of the same name. We thought it would work because the ethos behind it echoes our belief that great music is like being in church. It is, as Prince would say, (and note my tongue is loosely in my cheek as I quote this) "the feeling you get not when you fall in love with a girl or a boy, but with the heavens above"; not, as my friend and fellow writer Paul would say, "all that God is a DJ b*ll*cks". If you're not sure what I mean, think about how you felt at the last concert you went to. We on the same page?
Let me hasten to add, before we alienate all the music loving atheists out there, that the real emphasis is on the creative impulse at the centre of this feeling. We are as passionate about stimulating thought and debate as the most skillful of MC's, and our magazine hopes to give others a space to express themselves both lyrically and musically.
Lovesexy Magazine will play host to an eclectic range of reviews, interviews and features covering soul to funk to jazz to hip hop. We intend to get the stuff that should be heard, heard. We won't pander to major label ideas of the next big thing, and won't unduly discriminate against great soulful music, whatever the label it's on, or whatever label it's without. Whilst some special things are happening over the water, we recognise that the UK has one of the most vibrant soul scenes in the world, and believe in proudly promoting the artists involved.
