I work part time in secretarial administration work.As you can see, I am a Darren Hayes fanatic, vegetarian, non-smoker,a totally giving person and I love:My Family Friends Listening to music Going on holiday Drinking wine Going out socialising Dancing Shopping Clothes Customizing clothes and sewing/craftsI hate: Liers, deception, bad manners, Fighting, Bullying, HeightsI am also a proud parent of two wonderful children, my son has severe Autism and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and I spend my time trying to promote more awareness/provisions for Autism - due to lack of specialist residential provision we had to send him out of our own county (DEVASTATING)- ONE day we will get there.AUTISM: Our son has severe autism. He is unable to communicate properly, limited speech and unstanding, repetitive routines and rituals associated with his disability.When he lost his teeth he nearly starved himself because he thought food was causing his teeth to come out. He was nearly hospitalised and became seriously thin. The only thing that worked was prozac to help alleviate his anxiety, and thankfully, this has helped reduce his rituals and he still remains on a high dose today.He eats the same food every meal time every day, so if we go out we normally have to take a pack up everywhere.Its awful when you are out and your child looks so "normal" and people talk to him and he does not answer properly, or starts screaming because a sound is too much, or rushes into a busy road to get away from a noise not realising how dangerous this is. It is the most hidden disability and we believe he was not born with it.As he also suffers obsessive compulsive disorder he has to do things in a certain way, therefore, close family members are drawn into his rituals and you begin to live your life around autism. You become a prisoner in your own home, too afraid to go out for "what might happen". Eventually the local special school and transport could not cope with him, and it's unbearable when you have to sit down in meetings with professionals all saying the same thing - he needed 24-hour residential care.No one until it happens to them knows how devastating it is to feel like you have given up on your child - but we realise it is not giving up, it is helping them progress and become individuals. Moving to residential school, he has become more sociable, independent and able to accept more changes. We alternate visits and weekends home every fortnight, and during holidays. I see good in everyone.I am a spiritual person, believe in god, and believe there is something else other than our life here on earth..........
