SMOOTH URBAN GUITARIST

About Me

Join our mailing list: Get this widget! All of his life Travis Vega has been fascinated with the timeless, all-encompassing qualities of ..without words.. pure music. Travis feels ..words can sometimes take away from the true message... Travis.. music takes him beyond words, melding his passion and talent to create his rhythmic autobiography both in the studio and in live performances.Growing up in a loving home reverberating with music, it was the powerful voices and hard grooving beats of the late 70..s and early 80..s R&B groups that impacted Travis.. boyhood. Travis fell in love with the guitar long before writing his name with fat crayons. He was transfixed by the glamorous image of the guitar player in music videos and at the Grammy..s. This new musical love prompted the construction of his first guitar. Made of an old chalkboard, rolled up newspaper and rubber bands, it would do until the coming of his Grandfathers Stella acoustic guitar at age 11.What to do with all that energy?Armed with a guitar and teenage energy, Travis channeled it through blues, alternative rock, punk and ska. It was the rhythms of ska he most loved, and indulged in all it had to offer. Yet, with all of this excitement, his musical career took on a different flavor with his introduction to ..The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery... Travis.. fascination with Wes Montgomery..s life floored him. Upon learning of Mr. Montgomery..s life, ..time stood still for me.., said Travis, ..I found what I was looking for... Some may study with an instructor, but instead, Travis listened before he played. And, he listened a lot. Upon completion of high school, Travis received the formal training he..d dreamed of as a boy. Formal training, being exposed to various types of music and artists at the Musicians Institute empowered him taking him to another level of creativity. This creative charge is evident in his artistic guitar playing and in his musical fullness.Another role model for Travis was George Benson. Travis struggles to pinpoint words to express the first time he listened to George Benson..s music. ..His approach and delivery are the best of any artist out there.., said Travis, ..I learned so much from his music and the potential music possesses. Like his role model, Travis has broken down barriers by crossing his music over into mainstream circles through an ethnic funk jazz-fusion. This combination entices bodies young and old to sway with the wholesome beat of pure passion.Through his talent, Travis has created a smooth laid-back melodic feel, earning him the "Rising Star" award in a Northern California. As an artist Travis is a bridge to deliver a positive musical message to an audience willing to journey with him. Travis.. tunes are their escape and his expression of gratitude for all that music has blessed him with. /
