About Me

Ayesha, the charismatic lead singer of Misnoma has an immense musical talent and a voice that some have compared to Sade, Beth Gibbons of Portishead and Suzanne Vega. Her music has an ethereal quality similar to Goldfrapp, with melodies that occasionally resemble Morcheeba, and a quirkiness reminiscent of Camille or Roisin Murphy of Moloko. But, at the end of the day, the pieces by this English-Algerian singer-songwriter are completely her own.

Nowadays when anyone with a half decent voice and a computer can churn out tunes, it is rare to find such an eclectic talent with classical training to boot. Ayesha, a soprano, also sings with Voxalba , a professional choir, guests with local funk-jazz outfit Groovejuice and has co-written several songs with NOVO , a folktronic group based in London and Barcelona. She also collaborated with the Acoustic Cuts Experiment on songs "Get up" and "Revivo" and alongside Max Wright from Ojos de Brujo on the song "Born". And in her gigs with the Cowgirls Anonimas , an all-girl ensemble, she not only sings, but also plays the ukulele, Venezuelan 'cuatro' and the bass.
The result of this much diversity, of blending genres like jazz, funk, folk, electronica, electro-hip hop with influences from far-flung corners of the world, is something very special. It isn’t every day that you come across a soprano who can rap in French. What adds another interesting note to her compositions is Ayesha’s knack for experimentation: playing with sounds, recording organic elements like her kitchen utensils or her cat, which she later manipulates electronically. Her music is rich in layers, far removed from the soulless quality of purely computer-based music, and above it all, her voice, clean, confident, crystalline.
With live experience in some of the Barcelona’s best clubs – including the Sala Apolo, City Hall, New York Club and Club13 – and summer festivals in Spain, the UK –Glastonbury and Shambala – and other parts of Europe. This girl knows how to put on a show.
REVIEW FROM BCN INTERNET SEPT '07 (A. Prigann)
Ayesha also recently appeared on Spanish national TV's Canta! Singstar as a semifinalist!! RTVE claimed "Sin embargo, quien protagonizó la actuación más vibrante y divertida de la noche fue, sin duda, Ayesha Mendham, una joven británica de ascendencia argelina que cantó "En que estrella estará" de Nena Daconte."
See http://cantasingstar.rtve.es/ for more info and to have a laugh at her audition!
Would like to meet:
Producers who are interested in collaborating on an album project (quirky Moloko meets Sade, Coco Rosie, Lamb, Mouse on Mars... a kind of vocal Fourtet) with emotive, sassy lyrics and chord progressions, fat attitude but delicate arrangements (manipulated audio of organic instruments) touches of jazz but nothing too obvious. Underground meets mainstream so as not to sell ourselves short either way. Have several song sketches, completed songs, ideas and image proposals but need another mind (and studio talent) to see it through.
If not, then producers (with label backing) who need a guest vocalist. Can do anything (vulnerable or belty) from Beth Gibbons to Britney to Maria Callas (well, not quite!!) with anything pop, folk, jazz, classical in between.
PLEASE CONTACT ME ON [email protected] if you are interested in collaborating!
