I am here for Dating, Serious Relationships, Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a huge mollusk geek. I have proclaimed myself the Queen of Oyster Spat. I will not go so far as to say I am the Oyster Goddess yet, though.
If you talk to me, you might get a good sea story. But that's not everything I do. Really. I play piano and sing and read way too many books for fun.
Also:
We're not ladies, we're ALTOS! (oops, can't use that one now)
Leader of the Bubble Brigade
Mad microscope skillz
Lazy soprano who got kicked out of the alto section

My Interests

Singing, playing my keyboard, reading too much, flirting on AIM, procrastinating, going to plays, concerts, and gallery openings, collecting seashells

I'd like to meet:

Intelligent, creative people

Music:

Mostly classical or Broadway, a few oldies for fun. Favorites at the moment: Gogol Bordello, Chicago soundtrack, Gipsy Kings, Chopin

Movies:

Lord of the Rings, Evita, Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, The Perfect Storm, Master and Commander:The Far Side of the World, Amelie, Harry Potter, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, Muppet Treasure Island, Star Wars (aka Episodes 4, 5, and 6), Kevin Smith movies, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Caddyshack, Take the Lead

Television:

The Simpsons, PBS/NJN

Books:

Fiction: Diana Gabaldon, Anne McCaffrey, Elizabeth Peters, Barbara Michaels, and of course my mom. Nonfiction: any field guide I can get my hands on, especially if it's anything to do with marine critters, Deep Ocean Journeys by Cindy Lee VanDover, Wonderful Life by Stephen Jay Gould, and Linda Greenlaw.

Heroes:

Janice! (the muppet, I mean. . .)

My Blog

A Salute to the Toilet Plunger

No, this is not an ironic title.  I really do mean it--the person who had the idea of sticking a little rubber cap onto a wooden stick was a Genius.  And this following post is why.   F...

I want my car back!

After a quiet holiday, I started the New Year with car problems.  I took it in for an oil change--and to see if the mechanic could figure out why there was a rainbow puddle on the street in front...

Do kids play with giant bugs anymore?

Due to a Halloween costume idea I had over the weekend, I've been out shopping for giant plastic (or rubber) bugs.  Nice, big creepy ones.  The kind that would make my grandma jump 3 feet in...

Final vacation blog--still no photos :(

Once more, I attempted to upload photos to myspace and once again I have been greatly disappointed.  When the uploader starts working, my profile picture may change again to various sandstone for...

Western Adventures--Part 2

Still no photos on here--this is getting irritating.   Anyway, Day 2 out west was Bryce Canyon.  When we woke up at our campground at 7000 feet or so, there was frost on the chairs we left o...

Way out West--minus photos

Since people are waiting to hear about my wonderful vacation, I'll drop a few lines here.  MySpace is being nasty when it comes to uploading my photos, so I guess I'll have to do without them for...

Dammit! I have to change my whole self-image!

Chorus finally started tonight!  However. . . all these years I've been singing alto.  Preferably second alto, because to be honest it's lazy for me.  Little strain, little breath for a...

Ways to amuse yourself on a boat

Since I've been in the field a lot this summer, I thought I'd share a list of ways to amuse yourself on a boat.  My study sites for one project are a 2-3 hour steam from the dock, so that leaves ...

Not as misanthropic as I thought. . .

My friend Amanda posted this as a bulletin--decided to take this and post it on my blog, since I found it amusing.  Unfortunately, the picture doesn't show up.   ..> ..> You Are 23% Misant...

Chicks who lay concrete are Hot.

So, I'm just saying that because I was playing with concrete this morning at work.  Another guy from my lab and I were making flag floats, so the concrete goes at the bottom of those, probably to...
