About Me

The Gunning System is no longer together. They have moved on to do other things. Paul and Kendall still play with Black Gasoline and Kevin has started a monsterous band called Concrete Cleaner. Paul is also working on a collaborative project called Sessions in the Attic. All these can be found right here on myspace. Thanks for coming to our shows and being supportive.
______________________________________________________
--BIO-- Formed in late 2004 by longtime friends Paul Robinson (guitar/vocals), Kevin Ware (bass), Kendall Newby (drums, vocals) and Colby Short (guitar), Wichita, Kansas’ The Gunning System moves outside of indie rock trends, creating something both new and familiar but above all else powerful.
With start-stop rhythms, loud guitars and vocals that howl with furious abandon The Gunning System calls to mind the likes of Hot Water Music, Leatherface and Planes Mistaken For Stars while carving a niche for itself, thanks in part to Robinson and Short’s distinctive guitar attack and the impeccably solid rhythm section of Ware and Newby. Along the way the quartet’s garnered the respect of its local peers, sharing the stage with bands such as Ricky Fitts and Paper Airplanes as well as national acts The Hudson Falcons, Planes Mistaken For Stars and The Esoteric.
Although its live shows were powerful and gaining it respect and an ever-growing fan base the band found time to record its debut album A Blessing To The Ages during the early months of 2005, emerging with a record rife with dark lyrical themes that focus on the aftermath of youth and the oncoming impact of adulthood and eschew the often superficial nature of contemporary rock lyrics. Robinson takes on the lack of quality control in indie rock’s with “Fuck Your Shitty Band I’m Sitting At The Bar,” gives a nod The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (“Black Maria”), celebrates rock ‘n’ roll rebellion (“Liberated”) and references crucifixion, car crashes and hell no less than half a dozen times throughout. In short, it’s not music to while away the time while you paint your nails or browse online for a new high-priced gadget; it’s music that commands your attention and your mind.
