Hello, my name is Joel Gausten. I have created this page as a tribute to the extraordinary RIK L RIK, who passed away in 2000. Rik was the singer in the original CA punk band F-Word! His later work included Negative Trend, Beach Blvd., the Slaves, Holy Riders, Garbage Hearts, the Celestials and a stint with Electric Frankenstein. There will never be another like him. I never had the pleasure of meeting Rik, or seeing him perform live (in bare feet, no doubt!) I became a fan of his work in 1997/98 thanks to the Electric Frankenstein guys.
In January 2005, I began researching Rik's life and music in hopes of creating a chapter on him in my upcoming book, tentatively titled ALBUMS THAT (SHOULD'VE) CHANGED THE WORLD. Since that time, I have conducted dozens of interviews, met some great people and collected some special memories of a man who left us too soon.
Recently, I decided to turn the 50+ hours of taped interviews I've conducted about Rik into a second, stand-alone book. A full-length, oral history of Rik L Rik will be published in 2008.With the list of contributors to this project growing all the time, I thought it was time to create a place online where Rik's friends and loved ones could share memories, pictures and generally keep in touch.
