I think we are drifting into the arena of the unwell.

About Me

I consider myself pretty lucky that I get to write for a living. However, before you get carried away with dreams of poets locked up in garrets or novelists hidden away in cabins in the woods, I should mention I write advertising. At least for now. Somewhat obsessively athletic, I generally have at least one sport I am pursuing, usually two. I also dabble in art and furniture making, occasionally puttering around in a friend's studio in a welding mask or playing with glass or paints or bits of wire or anything else I can find. Travel as often as I can, attend the occasional opera and symphony, read anything and everything, find music absorbing, but can't dance to save my life and still believe in making dinner from scratch (as often as time allows).

My Interests

rowing, kayaking, climbing, art, history, fitness, philosophy, cooking, reading, writing, breathing, sculpture, painting, glass, furniture design, welding, books, traveling, hiking, camping.

I'd like to meet:

I'm always happy to meet someone who's into similar things.

Music:

A little bit of everything - indie, blues, classical, opera, techno, jazz, a little rap, whatever. The only types I don't like are country, Mariachi, Chinese opera and polka. I am convinced that if these four things were ever mixed, it would signal the apocalypse. If you force me to name drop, current favorites are the Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, the Dresden Dolls, Balkan Beat Box, the Hong Kong, Beirut, Human Television, Say Hi to Your Mom and Flogging Molly. (Yeah, I know. Blah, blah, blah. Look at how indie I am.)

Movies:

Withnail & I, How to Get Ahead in Advertising, Harold & Maude.

Television:

No, thank you.

Books:

Palahniuk, Coupland, Kundera, Wharton, Garland, Robinson... I do love books - the way they feel when you turn a page. I'm a definite book hoarder.

Vive la France

Last night was Bastille Day - a massive party here. Today I moved into my new apartment. And now, I am going back to bed. One of these days, I will manage a blog entry that's more than four sentences.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

So an old college buddy has been in visiting. Yesterday, I took the day off to wander around Chinatown with her. We'd been perusing the trash and trinket shops - amazing, there must be whole villages ...

There are no toilets in Paradise

So here I am home again, golden bronzed and sporting a liver nursing some serious grievances. You might think that 9 days kayaking, hiking and tromping through jungles would be a healthy way to vacati...
