No regrets, just lessons learned

About Me

I am a proud member of "Wade Hatton and the Texas Hat Band". We're made up of Wade Hatton (guitar and lead vocalist), his beautiful wife Glenda (drums), Chris Campbell (one hellova guitar player..), Bill Lester (bass and harmonica...sometimes even at the SAME time..), and myself...I sing harmony, play acoustic guitar and percussion.
We finished our first CD as a group in 2006, and I'm really excited (and proud) about it. Called "A MILLION MILES FROM NASHVILLE", it's all original, Texas stuff. We have had the honor of playing such places as the historic White Elephant Saloon, Texas Music Nation, Stockyard Saloon, the famous Luckenbach Dance Hall, and the big chili bash in Terlingua. We're regulars at the Arlington and Fort Worth Shady Oak BBQ, and other local bars and clubs in North Texas.
We're now hard at work on "RAUNCHY TONK", our second CD. You can listen to a preview of the first single, "Texas Hold 'Em", on the band page. You can check out our website at www.texashatband.com for all the news, gigs and lyrics from the first CD, as well as pics and such from the band.
Ya'll come visit, and remember to " GET A HAT ON " !
THANK YOU to everyone who voted for the Texas Hat Band in the "LIVE BAND OF THE YEAR" catagory. The voting is over; because of YOU, we had the distinct honor of being named "LIVE BAND OF THE YEAR, 2007"! You all helped get us there. For that, we could never thank you enough. God bless, and we love you all.
Thanks to all my Firefighter, Police and Military friends who risk thier lives each and every day to save others. God Bless, and stay safe.

My Interests

Besides music? I do find time to cook in a chili cookoff every once in a while.

I also enjoy photography, going to the gym, reading a good book, crochet, NASCAR races, rollercoasters, rodeo, spending time with my friends and Alan, the love of my life.

NOTE: For those of you that have asked, the guitar is an orange Gretsch Rancher 12-string.
NO, I did not go to the University of Texas; orange is a classic Gretsch color. (Just ask Brian Setzer).
And YES, I can play all 12-strings. (Just not at the same time.) ;-)

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who takes the time to come and see our band....what an honor to have them there! I've already met the love of my life, so I just want to meet friends...new friends, old friends...just good people.

Also, if it were possible, my Grandpa Barney, my Pawpaw Roy, my Dad, Elvis, and Jesus. (I'd have loved to have had the chance for my Dad to see me onstage.....we're playing it country for you, Papa. I love you forever.)

In loving memory of Kevin W.; a great fan, but an even greater friend.
I'll think of you when we play at the White Elephant, I hear a Bodie Powell song or see a Harley flying down the road.... I'll always love you and miss you.
Leave my name at the door of the Pearly Gates, OK ? (Just tell 'em I'm with the band.) Godspeed.

Wedding pictures....April 19th, 2008, Waxahachie, Tx.
We got married on the steps of the Ellis County Courthouse beneath the carved faces of "Mabel" and "Henry"; two lovers that will gaze at each other for all time.

Music:

My band, and anything played by our friends and fellow musicians that is considered "Texas Country", "Alternative Country", or "Americana".

John Denver: He is the reason I am a guitar player today. The first song I ever learned to play was "Take Me Home, Country Roads". I loved him and his music from day one, and I still do. His passing left a big hole in the music fabric of the world. Godspeed, my friend. Peace.

Radney Foster: My biggest hero and inspiration; I wish I could write songs even a smidgen like he does. (And he's a really nice guy, too...)

"What's so funny 'bout PEACE, LOVE and UNDERSTANDING?"---Elvis Costello

Lyle Lovett: All I can say is...wow.

"Everybody's somebody in an old Hill Country town..."

My sweetheart Alan, drawn in Paris. (France. Not Texas.)

I am so very lucky to have a love like this...I've waited my whole life for this man. I love you, Alan.

Movies:

I love BOTH kind of movies; old Westerns in black and white, and old Westerns in color.

Television:

The Discovery Channel, T.L.C., A.&E.,NASCAR Cup races, "Miami Ink", "LA Ink", "Dog, The Bounty Hunter", "Ghost Hunters", British comedies, national and local news.

Books:

The "Scarpetta" series by Patricia Cornwell are my favorites.

Heroes:

Fellow musicians Radney Foster, Jon Christopher Davis, Bryan David Smith, Bodie Powell, Wade Hatton, Brett Watts, Charlie Bishop, Kevin Banford, Tom Faulkner, Kevin Geil (TWO TONS! TWO TONS!), Tom Russell, Max Stalling, Hal Ketchum, Guy Clark, Buck Owens, Chris LeDoux, Walt Wilkins, Gary P Nunn, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Jimmy Buffett, John Denver, Gene Watson, Dale Watson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Elvis (both Presley AND Costello), Kevin Higgins and Barbara Malteze.
My Mom and (late) Dad, my son Josh, my counterpart Alan (love ya, Babe!), and my bestest girlfriends Sherry, Faith, Sharon, Carla, Julie, Martha, Donna, Sandi, Linda, Glendas (one and two), Ann, Dianne, Peggy, and Debi.
Anyone who puts themselves in harm's way, and/or defends the freedom we all take for granted. God Bless you all....and GOD BLESS TEXAS!
..
Barbara and Glenda....girlfriends are the best!
Brett, Wade and Kevin...love you guys!
