It was began 1959, UR existed 42 years until 2001. Beginning playing the surf rock music in thier home area (no ocean!), UR always having claiming origin in ruined Mesopotamian City. Different stories depend on who is talked to about. Maybe Muslim think one way about and Christian Jewish think another -- hey, ok!
UR made loads singles in early 1960s. Maybe some can be found. In 1965 they moved it to Üsküdar part of Istanbul and changing of loads members. With times UR becomes psychedelic sound more than the surfing sound, and then after some success moving to Avcilar. They made some songs for Altin Mikrofon that nevere got accepted. In 1969 adding some vocals on first full album translating as "Sea of the Living Blood" (or "the Sea being alive with Blood") with hit song "Castles of Sand" becoming popular. evn in Germany, but this album was just called "Monotheism" there. I found boxes of live single from this time for songs Labyrinth of Light and Circumambulation. Last spring I sold to Mimicry Recording in the United States 700 of them! Buy it there before it goes gone forever!
In early 1970s UR was changing the bass player and going to Romania. too much Türkiye politics, criticized, and some controversies. UR makes loads singles for some small labels. Quite strange music and some concepts singles. They are put together for a LP called "UR Inferioritis Naturum". It plans to being re-released soon! get it. In 1977 or 1978 a new drummer is there and UR gets inspired for german minimal music. It can be heard on 1979 album "Urreligion" released in small german-only pressing; the year they go to Germany. UR continues this style into their very known music from early 1980s, like "Cadeuceus" which everyone remembers. (but not many people know how long UR history is!). After this loads success they stay in Germany. where some various problems and drugs came, and soon when recording the last song on famous album "Anthropomorphia" (1985) UR was stopped for ten years.. but in 1995 they agreed on to played songs at two big shows in Koln. Biggest UR's shows ever! This made them to work on new versions of old songs for the album called Ka-Huna that I don' t like too much, but everyone really likes. A lot of bands are copying. A band called Secret Cheifs has tribute cover songs of UR in ka-Huna sound, but they are sound production too much and not very good. They are on that label Mimicry Recording, so that is for your decision. The last UR album was recorded in live setting on last tour in 1999, called "Live at the Acropolis". I never believe it was recorded at this show since I got the bootleg of it and it is very different. But is still very good! In 2001 tragedy three members of UR dies.
