About Me

BIO
Many DJs trumpet their versatility behind the decks, but few in Australia can claim command of as many different dance music genres as Brisbane’s Baby Gee. Equally at home spinning house at Gold Coast’s Bedroom, big room electro at Monastery or his trademark tech-trance at his Fridays @ Family residency (which he’s held since the Brisbane superclub opened in 2001), it’s little wonder that Baby Gee has earnt a reputation as one of this country’s favourite dancefloor igniters.
His mantelpiece is already the envy of some of his more experienced peers, having twice taken the crown as Queensland’s Number 1 DJ in the Dance Music Awards (DMAs), being voted 1 for three years running in the In the Mix Top 50 (ITM50) DJ Poll from 2004 to 2006, and becoming the first QLD DJ to hit the Top 5 nationally – the 2007 ITM50 sees him ranked 3 in Queensland and 7 across the country.
But industry kudos and hype are of little interest to Baby Gee. It’s in the DJ booth where he lets his talent do the talking, as it has since he burst out of the underground and into the limelight with his Saturday night Monastery residency in the early Noughties, a residency which became a cornerstone of Monastery’s growing success at the time.
And It isn’t just local club owners and promoters who’ve taken notice of his skills. Baby Gee is are now called upon to smash dancefloors across the country, with regular slots at summer festival institutions Summafieldayze, Goodvibrations, Future Music Festival, Two Tribes and Parklife, monthly residencies at national hot-spots Moulin Rouge (Sydney) and Jackrox (Melbourne) and guest appearances at super-clubs like Sydney’s Home now appearing on his rapidly expanding CV. Not to mention support slots for a wide range of international house acts, from Dave Seaman, to M.A.N.D.Y. to Switch.
Helming a successful compilation series has also given Baby Gee’s profile a massive national boost, and as co-pilot of the Central Energy series alongside Sydney-siders Archie and Amber Savage he’s been able to showcase the tech-trance sounds currently inspiring him.
The sounds featured on these mixes and at his Family residency (and the inspiration of international heavyweights Mauro Picotto, Scot Project and Ferry Corsten) have also reared their heads in his own production work. Collaborations with fellow Family Resident tyDi (‘Pineapple’) and his own solo work (‘Supaman’) have already seen the light of day on GenerationNext and Central Station respectively, and with Gee himself admitting his production career is in its infancy you suspect that this is just the beginning.
And if this is just the beginning of his story, you just have to wonder how much better Baby Gee’s adventure is going to get. With such universal musical appeal and the good looks to match, there’s little doubt he’ll be on top of the best seller’s lists for some years to come.
