Jmac (Rhythm Division)

About Me

JMac is the latest luminary to come forth and shine in Brisbane’s ever expanding electronic vista. With an impressive pedigree in jazz, big band, blues and the classical traditions, music has been and always will be a significant feature in JMac’s life. Having dabbled in clarinet, bass clarinet and percussion and surrounded by the extraordinary harmonic structures of Don Spencer, Billie Halliday and Glen Gould as a youngster, the mark of lustrous melodies, plump textures, clean lines and a superior sense of timing has indelibly stained JMac’s musical psyche. Particularly inspired by such leading lights as Ajax and Eddie Halliwell and combined with his varied interest in all musical genres and instruments, JMac has found his vocation in the unlimited unrestricted artistry of the decks. Working through tech trance, hard dance, breaks, house and electro, JMac has taken his expansive musical experience to incorporate all aspects of these genres in a unique mash up/quick mix style. His signature of taking a popular tune and presenting it in an immeasurably new light by fusing the big band sound of traditional instruments with the electro house matrix highlights JMac’s artistic imagination; setting him apart from commonplace DJs and emphasising him as an electronic artiste. With a tempered ambition yet unassuming character to his electronic artistry, JMac is also a founding member of the illustrious group Rhythm Division; a body of DJs intent on promoting and presenting musicians and instrumentalists fused with quality electronic dance music. JMac will continue to defy music traditions by integrating live instrumental grooves with the decks, with the aim of creating and contributing quality music to a melodically famished community.JMac has performed for audiences on packed dancefloors at many events and venues, including: Breaks&Enter @ GPO, Kink @ Mass Night Club, Jaq’d on Jorge @ Jorge, Rhythm Division @ Planet Night Club, Rhythm Division @ Metropole and Transmission @ ArenaJMac has supported a stellar cast of Djs and electronic acts, including: Bag Raiders (SYD), Cut la roc (UK), Miami Horror (MELB), Stafford Brothers (MOS) Tamsin (UK), tyDi (Family/Mixology) and Van She TechBio written by Lady Lex
