The Coffin Birth concept was born in 2005 in the fog that is Saint John, New Brunswick in Eastern Canada. The 3 songs on the demo are over a year old and it wasn't until recently that the band has found a vocalist to complete the recording. Initially Wilska from the Finnish band Finntroll had agreed to do the vocals for the band but it became evident that it would be too difficult to continue with a vocalist so far away. Wilska had originally contributed backing vocals to Jamie and Nathans previous band Obscene Eulogy who had an EP and full length CD on Baphomet Records in 2003 and 2004. Mikka from the band Impaled Nazarene provided the lead vocals on both of these releases.
Jamie and Nathan have both been instrumental in the Saint John metal scene playing in many bands throughout the years but have now dedicated their time to the Coffin Birth project. Jamie also has another project as well called Bound in Human Flesh whose new CD "Systematic Destruction" is out now.Stevil had joined the band for vocal duties earlier this year. Stevil is a veteran of the local metal / punk scene appearing in numerous bands since the late 80's most noticeably with the influential band The Scapegoats.
The concept behind Coffin Birth is a return to our roots, to return to the heavy music that had originally inspired us. This inspiration came from seeing King Diamond last year on tour. To witness the professionalism and talent of this individual who has inspired us collectively since the first Mercyful Fate LP, was the spark that we needed to create our own dark, heavy music. The philosophy behind Coffin Birth was literally ripped from the pages of an old EC comic book. Comics like Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, Eerie and Creepy are a direct influence to the lyrics and to the graveyard philosophy that is Coffin Birth. The dark humor and imagery from these morbid tales had a certain element of class to them very much like the music and content of the King. This philosophy is something that the band have approached with a black tongue placed firmly in cheek. Coffin Birth is a declaration by three individuals that have a true passion for their craft.
We have signed with Bleak Art Records out of Ontario, Canada and have now released the first pressing of our first full length "The Miracle of Death". The new album is a big step up from the demo, better sound, sicker vocals, face shreddin guitar work and a genital crushin bass sound provided by our new bass player Baron Von Hamlow. The album was released on the Winter Solstice 2007 - the Miracle of Death has been unleashed - DIG IN !!!
