About Me

Red Rack’em is well known for his naughty pirate soul remixes of the Nas, Tweet, Busta Rhymes and Yvette Michelle which have been supported by the likes of the Unabombers, Todd Terje, Swag, Yam Who, Deisler as well as institutions such as Fat City and Straight No Chaser. But this is only one small part of Rack’ems musical voyage. As a DJ he is known for his club rocking, genre busting eclectic sets and his diversity is reflected in his broad output as a producer. From the sickest dubstep to wonky disco, Detroit beatdowns and glitchy hip hop…his work is respected by heroes such as Carl Craig, the Idjut Boys, the Rush Hour crew and The Nextmen. As a re-editor he has no fear…even taking on Miles Davis and coming back alive!THE ELEMENTZ "CRUSHMODE" LAUNCH PARTY - 24TH MAY
NOT TO BE MISSED!
Reds DJ sets are held in equally high regard and he has the rare talent of being able to play quality sets in several different fields or throw the whole lot together and join the dots between broken beat, futuristic hip hop, proper Detroit house and rough disco. This diversity has seen him perform alongside many heavy hitters… cosmic disco vibes with Lindstrom and Prins Thomas….raw dubstep with Benga, Hatcha and N Type….futuristic hip hop with Flying Lotus….Detroit house with Demarkus Lewis… deep techno with Modeselektor and Move D…..Rack’ems broad taste in music has also led to him being in demand as a warm up DJ for many visiting bands such as Fat Freddys Drop, Dwele and Amp Fiddler and his fortnightly Smugglers Inn radio show (wed 6-9pm @ www.myhouse-yourhouse.net) and podcast (www.redrackem.podomatic.com) has got a dedicated audience who regularly download this online peek into his record bag. He’s also been hard at work abroad playing round Europe too…So what does 2008 hold for Red Rack’em? Well there’s the hotly anticipated Marlinspike dubstep project, which is already receiving support from Shackleton, Geiom and Gravious. He’s also resurrecting his dormant disco persona Hot Coins with Eps for Society Records and Bear Funk. And there’s going to be some next level hip hop moves too if his beat tapes are anything to go by.. Plus the obligatory 4 gigs a week! You can download red rack’em DJ sets @ www.astrojazz.com/mixes and www.anothernightonearth.blogspot.com/ or check out his music at www.myspace.com/redrackemWho Supports Red Rack'em? Manchester seems to be the labels best market with Piccadilly and Fat City selling the biggest chunk of each release. The Yvette Michelle record allegedly sold 60 copies in one day at Fat City. Both shops have been very vocal in their support - The label has had Record of the Week from both shops on different titles and each release has been in the best sellers list for each shop during its sales lifespan. Fat City have also shown an interest in unreleased music coming from the Red Rack'em studio. Red Rack'em tracks have been played out repeatedly at the city's most popular club nights, The Electric Chair and Friends and Family. We are proud to have had DJ support from some of the scenes biggest names - Idjut Boys, Jazztronik, Yam Who, Unabombers, Ross Allen, Nextmen, Swag, Soul Mekanik, Kid Sublime, Hint, Simon Harrison, Rune Lindbaek, Todd Terje, Dielsler, Nick Matthews and even some chap called Carl Craig who put the first Rack'em Up release at number 3 in his Vinyl Junkies chart. The label has also been succesfull in London shops such as Vinyl Junkies, Scenario, IF Music and Phonica - check the Red Rack'em chart on Phonica . Roughly half of the sales are overseas - Europe, Japan, Canada and the US.
