The EarlyMan Scene EP (Nonstop) - EW 08/05/2006 Edmund Cavill started his career in dance music with his finger on a spraycan nozzle. Specifically, when he was commissioned to create a graf piece for Arthur Russells first UK release, way back in the 80s. In the mid 90s he was in Spacek. And right now, hes gone solo. The results throw hip hop, electronica, distorted bass and early rave into the mix. F.A.B.

Mixmag - (experimental) - Electro-broken-beat R&B that owes little to the US.
Like his work with his old band Spacek, Edmund Cavill's Earlyman project is a very British fustion of broken beat, R&B and hip-hop with some lush techno noises and rude soundsystem bass plus great guest vocalists. It's edgy, soulful and trippy all at once; a confident solo debut.Que Pasa - top tip

The Scene EP (Non-Stop)
Whilst after Spacek split singer Steve moved to California to make bright, airy soul music, guitarist Ed Cavill seems to have sunk further even further into Londons grimy musical underground. Eds productions as The Earlyman are still soul music but these are tunes for long, dark nights as the fractured beats and melodies of tracks like Scene and Higher sounds like the spirit of Jay-Dilla caught in a cracked musical mirror whilst vocalists Trevor Goodchilde, Kombo and Fiona Mahon murmur ominously at the edges. 'The tracks sound fab. Got an injection of rawness that that broken-beaty type sound is SORELY in need of'Elle J Small (Blues & Soul)
'yes, thinks it's amazing- really cool blend of hip hop, electro, jungle and hints of grime... totally original- love it!'SINGLE OF THE FORTNIGHT:
THE EARLYMAN: Scene EP (Nonstop)
Bad boy! Rough neck! Huge props go out to Edmund Cavill AKA The Earlyman for this genre-pushing 3-track (plus some tidy instrumentals) EP. A one-time member of eclectic group Spacek, The Earlyman goes it alone to produce musically mind- blowing, boggling sounds, influenced by hip hop, funk and electro. On title-track Scene, American native Trevor Goodchilde chats about coke-fuelled paranoia and mental health- the latter a condition that The Earlyman apparently has learned to live with- over bizarre yet contagious beats. Star-track Take Over provides a bassline to murder the neighbours with and features badboy jungle MC Kombo delivering big, bouncy, reeeewindable lyrics. Meanwhile Higher blends leftfield with broken beat and features Irish lady Mahon slating dull, uninspiring music. (Out: June 12th)
