Let The Gladness Begin!

About Me

1998
Spiral Stairs forms in October by Carl Dalemo - guitar & vocals, Sebastian Didier - bass & vocals, Martin Henningsson - drums and Fredrik Simonson - guitar. The first gig is at EFS on December 18.
1999
After graduation, six months of inactivity follows before rehearsal resumes. Martman moves to Trollhättan to study. The first demo, The Kids Are Back, is recorded in the rehearsal hall during Christmas and New Year.
2000
After a gig at Solkult in June, Sebbe decides to quit. The band is without a bass player for half a year but still records a second demo, Thanks For The Feedback, in the rehearsal hall. Carl moves to Uppsala to study. Karl Hallin practises as bass player in December.
2001
The year starts with Hallin being accepted in the herd and during spring/summer, a third demo, With Love From Farmington, is recorded. Sebbe makes a temporary comback being a stand-in for Hallin at two gigs.
2002
Rehearsal is frequent during summer and in August the band goes into a real studio for the first time, with Jonas Källsbäck as a producer. The result is a fourth demo called Nice People Likes Us. Right after the recording Carl moves to London and Hallin to Falun.
2003
The band performes two gigs without Carl who in May announces that the band he plays with in London has got a contract. This makes it harder for Spiral Stairs to go on as a quartet and the band turnes into a trio. Carl’s lack of time makes this fact inevitable, but he’s always welcome home to Spiral Stairs. By the end of the year, the band’s fifth demo, Drowned By Plastic Tales, is recorded in Falun.
2004
The year starts with the release of Drowned By Plastic and after that, not a thing happens. Martman is asked to play drums in JetVicious which he accepts. Fredrik plays guitar with Love Injections and Karl is busy with a band in Falun called Passion Play. In London, things are happening with Razorlight, where Carl plays the bass. They release single upon single and eventually also their debut album which goes up on third place in the English hitlist. In other words the band is doing incredibly well and Carl and the rest goes around the world performing gigs. In Spiral Stairs, things start to happen only after summer when the band has some gigs. The beat is still there and a new devotion starts to flow towards coming adventures.
2005
Stunned by Dalemo’s success, Spiral Stairs comes to a standstill and loses at least half a year. Luckily everyday life returns slowly but steadily and a new song named Simple Head is made. During a gig at Göteborgskalaset Spiral Stairs shows that you can’t beat experience and that religion belongs in the church. Moreover, Hallin moves back home to Lidköping after some years in Falun and he feels safe once again. But most part of the year is, as said, lost… Dalemo rules and performes as support act for U2 at Ullevi. Hail King Carl and Spiral Stairs!
2006
After the slack behaviour of 2005 it’s time to pull oneself together and in January, the studio at Nätverket is booked for recording. With the watchword "We work best under pressure and with as few hours in the rehearsal hall as possible” we soon have six songs, more or less ready, when we enter the studio a month later. After some adjustments during the recording, and adding a new song, we then have a record with seven strong tracks in our hand. Let The Gladness Begin!
