It seems passion and technology brought them together; drummer Mike Thompson was passionate about putting together a band that could seriously groove. Believing there were other like-minded musicians out there, he began his search.Leaving no stone unturned, this quest brought him to something we are all probably familiar with: Craigslist. There, in the fall of 2004, he met liked-minded guitarist Ian North and saxophonist Bean Bieniek. Then, seemingly by accident and fate, he brought bassist Ryan Ghedotte on board. (Mike had called a co-worker of Ryan's for the gig, but he wasn't interested and passed it along to Ryan) Ryan suggested that his friend and business associate, percussionist/resident poet Jabiya Dragonsun, sit in with them and "see what happens."What happened seemed to be instant magic! From the first moments that the five of us got together the chemistry was something that could not be measured with existing technology. Despite age and different up-bringings, we all realized that we all had the same goal: to create and perform music that is thought provoking, sonically rich, and has a groove that will always "keep the bodies shakin' and the necks snappin'."We invite each and every one of you to check out The Family's music via recordings or live shows.
