IMPROVISATION IS THE ELIXIR OF LIFE!!!

About Me

...From his earliest musical experiences listening to his parent's piano/french horn duets; to imploring anyone in audible range to re-play for probably the 10th time, Elvis singing 'Hound Dog'; to playing the tennis racket while Ricky Nelson sang at the end of 'Ozzie & Harriet' re-runs; to borrowing his father's fedora to aid in his Frank Sinatra imitations; Joe Giglio's focus in life has & continues to be MUSIC. (btw, 'fedora' is a type of hat)...A key & intense moment of transformation occured at age 12 when a much admired, older saxophonist cousin played John Coltrane's 'Ascension' for him-hypnotized. Weekly trips to Manhattan from the 'burbs to score any & all jazz LP's available ensued...Jazz chord shapes; 'Krepsch' clarinet studies; Lester Young solos; singer-songwriter endeavours; 'bop' lines; lessons with Joe Puma, Lou Stein, Sal Mosca & Jack Wilkins; alternate picking; workshops with Jimmy Heath, Kenny Burrell, Barney Kessel;Bach flute sonatas; gigs with Steve Geraci in New Paltz; sessions & gigs with a multitude of NYC jazz divas, necessitating a widening tune list & key flexibility; Mikell's, Greene St., The Bitter End, CBGB's, Windows On The World (shed tears here), Riverside Church, Central Park, Roma e Firenze, Folk City, Caramoor, 55 Grand, The Waldorf; The 55 Bar, Eric's, WNYC-FM, 107WEST, The Carlyle; St. John The Divine, WNEW-AM; The North Light, St. Blaize...humble on-stage interactions with Bucky Pizzarelli, Joe Wilder, Howard Alden, Eddie Bert, Ron McClure; Carmen Leggio, Harvie S., Jack Wilkins, Houston Person, Joe Puma, Ralph Lalama, Yoron Israel, Bill Crow, Joe Diorio, Bobby Rydell, Gene Bertoncini; Gerry Hemmingway, James Emery, Judy Niemack, Melba Joyce... Always teaching...a joyful, rewarding & noble pursuit..learning as much or more than his students & from his students...Thank You...Composing - sometimes for a deadline & always for the thrill...Projects: "The Trio"; "Spring Lake"; "Solo"; "Inside Out"; "Clairvoyant Avenue"; "3 Spirits"...air-into sub-conscious-into fingers-unto strings-into air- unto tape-now mostly unto digital... In the course of following my heart, I have played hundreds of gigs ranging from the sublime to the absurd, and have spent countless hours practicing, studying, listening, transcribing, reading, and haunting the dark cellars of the New York City Jazz experience. It all leads to you, the valued listener, and to this opportunity to share my experiences with you via this treasured art form...
