Gulping back my venom before it chokes me

About Me

I'm a sweet and lovable chap who is never sarcastic or bitchy. Although being possesed of an awesome intellect I manage to refrain from being an arrogant fool with secret and undermining insecurities.

I'm a film-maker. A disabled person. An academic. An artist. A sci-fi fan. A massive reader of both trash and quality literature. A scouser. A middle-class drop-out trying to claw back in.

You have to risk getting laughed at to learn anything

I accidentally deleted a lot of people while knackered. Sorry. Add me as a friend again if you notice.

My Interests

Films. (Independent, art and B-Movie, of course). Books. Computer Games. Spending too much time with my Broadbamd connection. Art. If I can be arsed and free drink is involved. Heavy drinking.

I'd like to meet:

Crying Clowns. Baby rabbits with sick paws. Big-eyed children who have been hanging in the same corner of the room for thirty years.

Anyone who likes the Alexandria Quartet and has read most Thomas Pynchon books a couple of times each.

Fans of Ingmar Bergman who also dig Joss Wheeden.

Music:

Who has time for music? Before I gave it up: Velvet Underground, Pogues, Housemartins, Paul Simon, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions. I have young friends who are in bands. Such as Zombina and the Skeletones and the late-lamented Kling Klang.

Movies:

Au Bout de Souffle, Android, Night of the Hunter, Casablanca, Miller's Crossing, Simple Men, Amateur, Trust, Tales From Gimli Hospital, Seven Samurai, Terra Firma, Maltese Falcon, Jojimbo, Annie Hall, Love and Death, Carry on Don't Lose Your Head, Carry On Screaming, Blade Runner (still, somehow), The Roaring Twenties, The Last Flight, the old 1930s Saint films with George Sanders, Flash Gordan (Dino D one), Carravagio, Jubilee, Zed and Two Noughts, Drowning By Numbers, A Matter of Life and Death, Happiness, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Grosse Point Blank, Performance, Walker, Sid and Nancy, Barbarella, Blade, Lost in Translation, Battle for Algiers, Some Like it Hot, Once Upon a Time in the West, Freaks, Sin City, Easy Rider, Starship Troopers, Evil Dead II, Breakfast at Tiffanies (sorry), Primer, Secretary, Land and Freedom, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China.

Television:

Buffy, Sopranoes, Battlestar Galactica, Andromeda, Lexx, Angel, Farscape. If it moves on a small screen and is Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy: I watch it. And I pretend I watch Newsnight.

Books:

Alexandria Quartet, Thomas Pynchon - especially V and Crying of Lot 49, Don DeLillo, especially Underworld, Iain Banks and Ian M. Banks, China Mieville, Tolstoy (War and Peace, of course), P.G. Wodehouse, Jeeves books and Blandings series in particular, Dashiell Hammet, Raymond Chandler, Dostoyevsky - The Idiot and The Gambler are favourites, Angela Carter, Henry Miller, Kevin Sampson, Herman Hesse, Albert Camus, Ian Macleod, William Gibson, Alan Moore, Hunter S. Thompson, Good Soldier Svejk (Hasek).

Heroes:

Bill Hicks, Germaine Greer, Richard Neville, Alex Cox, Lloyd Kaufman, Laurence Clark, Leonora Carrington, Clodius Pulcher.
