Savory Cafe
Another foreign flick on the movie marquee,
My weight shifts from side to side,
cigar smoke lingers as the bus engine cackles.
I move closer to news headlines atop a tousled paper.
The popcorn aroma negotiates and surrounds me,
Another low growl coming from inside.
"Hush" I say, in a lullaby to my hunger.
A sweet melon idles on a white plate.
Cherry pie a-la-mode and black coffee sounds good.
One menu and a tabletop dance in a syrupy grasp,
as the Sunday funnies color a gray, clouded
conversation of the couple beside me.
Two eggs over-easy seek friendship
with wheat toast.As the waiter passes,
the sticky bun with a pecan eyeball looks at me,
as I am caught drooling.
