About Me

-Okayplayer
"If you want to know what the future of music is- it is here. it is everything you know, but like nothing you've ever heard."
-Clayton (Jazz in June)
"These tracks swing and funk and bliss out and aren’t afraid to wave their prog or Bollywood or pre-bop-jazz freak flags."
-OC Weekly
"Free the Robots tread on that line like some tightrope performers, and manage to pull of the trick on every track here, balancing breakbeats, psychedelia, hip hop and electronic elements like it's nothin"

((THE KILLER ROBOTS INVADE IN MARCH))Obey follows up their lauded A-Trak project with this beats excursion from two of LA's finest: Free The Robots and Lab's own Gaslamp Killer. Free The Robots starts off the EP with the maniacal psyche beats of "Clocks and Daggers." Wicked stuff for the horror-minded. GLK tags in with "Show Stopper," a heavily Indian flavored track with that tricky drum programming that we expect from this dude. FTR tags back with "The Bearded Lady Theme," a bluesy, playful number that harks back to their first EP release (also available digitally at the lab). GLK comes in for the finale, "Zalim," a thick number that will take you to the back alleys of Mumbai.

If you can't make it to Austin, no worries...Los Angeles Premier @ the Lowend Theory April 2nd!
BILLIE HOLIDAY...WHOOPS!I was recently asked to contribute to a remix project and i chose to flip a classic Billie Holiday track by the name of, "You let me down." It turned out it couldn't be released due to some confusion... basically I jumped the gun. "You let me down," is on the wrong label idiot!! my mistake! anyways... I didn't want it to just sit there so I decided to share it with you for Free!you'll see there's a new track up for download!Enjoy!
NO SLEEP TILL BROOKLYN!!In the Midst of this Restaurant building stuff, Recording, and Dj'ing, one has to just get away for some inspiration. check this quick flick of a 48 hour period with Robots, a sneak peak in the development of The Crosby, and a special performance by some friends we brought along with us to NYC!
FREE THE ROBOTS (FREE THE DOWNLOAD)"With a sound that combines the wraith-like musical patterns of Les Savy Fav with the overcast moodiness of late-era Fugazi, Long Beach, California's the Valley Arena might not immediately come across as the best remix candidates. Then again, the first rule of conventions is that they're meant to be defied, which is exactly what DJ Chris Alfaro a.k.a. Free the Robots does in his remix of "Kick at the Ceiling."-SPIN

BEST LOCAL HIP HOP ARTIST 2007 (OC Weekly)
"Santa Ana DJ/producer Chris Alfaro probably knows more about music than you do. He has applied his advanced knowledge of jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop and electronic music to his Free the Robots solo project, and the diligent studying and crate-digging have paid serious dividends. Call him an old-school avant-gardist. Free the Robots creates instrumental hip-hop based on obscure samples that are ingeniously spliced and juxtaposed for maximum friction and frisson. Check out the self-titled EP on Elsewhere Studios for proof. The first track is called “Listen to the Future,” and it’s not an idle boast. These tracks swing and funk and bliss out and aren’t afraid to wave their prog or Bollywood or pre-bop-jazz freak flags."
