About Me

If you had to sum up Thomas Blondet in one word, that word would be versatility. The man has got some of the most versatile dj and producers skills you will ever encounter. Whether he’s dj’ing a large dancefloor or an intimate lounge setting, Mr. Blondet has got the tools to get the job done. Thomas Blondet is most well known as the DJ Tom B, a name he carved out for himself in the 1990’s club and dance music scene in Washington, DC. For several years it seemed that Tom B was on every flier and line-up in the entire DC area. But Tom’s roots go deeper than that, and his career has continued to grow and develop on a unique path. The ease with which Tom moves from genre to genre or among various club settings makes sense when you look at his musical background. The first tape he remembers buying was the Jackson Five and his first concert was U2. He learned to play the drums in his youth and took up DJ’ing by 13. Starting off just having fun with house parties, by the time he was old enough Tom became a regular jock on the DC scene. Over the years he has played just about every type of beat oriented music from deep house to speed garage, drum’n’bass, hip-hop, reggae, latin, dub and downtempo. Having this varied musical background and depth of experience comes in handy both in the studio and dj booth. From hip Las Vegas lounges to chic Montreal clubs, massive nightclubs, underground rave events or DC’s headquarters of downtempo, the Eighteenth Street Lounge. For several years he held down a Thursday night residency at the legendary club Red, may it rest in peace. Several years ago Tom started to create his own music in the studio. In 2006 he started his own label, 202 Digital which is perfectly suited to navigate the new music industry. Some of the artists he has featured on 202 Digital have been Adam Shecter, N’Dinga, Lenny Barnes, and Lane Mccray. In keeping with his own musical tastes, the orientation of 202 Digital is open to various sounds as long as they are good quality.Tom also releases music on Rhythm and Culture Recordings and works closely with its owner, Farid Ali. 2005 saw the release of the European Coaster EP and in 2007 he followed up with the Echo Chamber EP. Both of these releases showcase a variety of sounds ranging from house to Brazilian beats, reggae, dug and downtempo. As if all of this were not enough, Tom has been branching out into new media such as TV, radio, internet and film. He is a Cakewalk featured artist and the See-I tune “How You Livin’”, produced by Thomas Blondet, is used as a demo song on Cakewalk’s Sonar 6 music production software. Tom also created the music for the Washington Capitals commercial, which the Capitals loved so much they play in the Verizon Center as well as TV and radio spots.Over the past year Tom has been working with DC’s roots reggae rockers See-I, featuring Rootz and Zeebo of Thievery Corporation. Not only does Tom perform duties in the studio for See-I as a producer and engineer, but he has also joined the live show dubbing up the band in real time. Get ready for much more See-I activity and several releases in the near future. Tom is busy working in the studio on his own album as well, and you know he will bring his versatility to this project as well, so be on the lookout for the Thomas Blondet full length album.
