About Me

I relentlessly play my baritone sax full tilt.I was born in the Arnhem, the Netherland on March 3rd, 1980 but soon moved to Canada. As a child I moved back and forth between the two countries. Both my parents are professional musicians, so I found myself surrounded by music from day one. Often I performed with my parents doing childrens shows and more theatrical productions. My first classical instruments were piano and cello, but I first picked up the baritone sax at the age of 12 playing in my school band. All this time I felt like music was forced upon me till one day at the age of 16 two things happened. I started creating electronic music on a old Atari computer and Akia sampler, and my dear friend Alex, his father Larry and I started a wood working project making hand drums. Totally taken by percussion, I started sitting in with friends and family around town. I also did a fair amount of playing with DJs in Vancouver and Amsterdam. All this time I worked in clubs and restaurants cooking my little soul away. When I moved back from Amsterdam I moved in with my father who inspired me to go to music school. He acted as my comp. and piano teacher and VCC's David Branter was my Saxophone teacher. At the age of 22 I started the music program at Vancouver Community College and graduated with honours in 2006.Since then I have toured all over China, Europe and North America with a wide variety of groups. Recorded with dozens of bands , like the New Pornographers, The Winks, Sweetpea Swing Band, They Shoot Horses Don't They, Jazz Robots, Salteens, Piano etc. The list is a biggy.I am now exited about my new baby girl Ella Joy Sars, playing in the Vancouver Jazz fest and living each moment to its fullest.Warmly, Tim Sars
