Saxophonist Lauren Nicholas is a founding member of the virtuosic Boston-based Back Bay Saxophone Quartet, one of New England’s premiere chamber ensembles. She has recorded with The Tony Gairo-Gary Rissmiller Jazz Orchestra, and performs regularly with Initality (jazz trio). Lauren recently formed the Interrobang Duo, a saxophone/percussion duo dedicated to the performance of new music. The Interrobang Duo will premiere a new work by Egyptian composer Halim El-Dabh for saxophone and derabucca (commissioned by the Worldwide Concurrent Premieres & Commissioning Fund) during the 2007–08 concert season.
Lauren holds a Master of Music degree from The Boston Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music degree from Moravian College and has studied with saxophonists Ken Radnofsky and Neil Wetzel. She has taught in the Hopkinton, Brookline, and Norwood public schools in Massachusetts. Currently she is saxophone and clarinet instructor at the Community Music School in Allentown, PA, and has a home studio. At Community Music School, Lauren runs clinics, master classes, ensembles, and summer camps. Her student ensembles are very active in the community of the Lehigh Valley. Additionally she teaches music and graphic design and music at Moravian College.
