drum and bugle corps, marching band, barbershop harmony, A Capella vocal harmony, vintage comedy, sci-fi (Star Trek particularly), pop culture, 80's stuff, music education, liberal politics, and probably a mess of things I'm leaving out.
I'd like to meet:
I get along with almost anyone. Basically however I'm treated, I give twice back. I'd love to meet up with old friends I haven't heard from in ages and new friends who share any or all of my interests.
And if you've read this far or read my blog, drop a note and introduce yourself! Nothing more frustrating than to see a buncha hits on my page an no clue who they are!
As for actual celeb-types: Stan Freberg, Kevin Smith, Mel Brooks, Nathan Lane, Robin Williams, Weird Al, Dan Akroyd, Will Vinton, Jon Lovitz, and a mess of sci-fi celebs I'll probably exchange no more than 2 word with when I finally go to some kind of comic or sci-fi convention.
My Quartet doing the theme to Underdog!
(Arranged by the FABULOUSLY talented Paul F. Perry.
Thanks, Paul!)/P
Music:
Barbershop harmony, classical, jazz, classic rock, good parodies, brass ensemble, drum corps, marching band, I can appreciate almost anything except most (but not all) rap and country music.
As for bands, artists & Groups:
Queen, CCR, The Cars, Chicago, Greatful Dead, B-52s, Royal Crown Revue, Barenaked Ladies, Rush, Styx, Yes, E.L.P., E.L.O., Boston, ABBA (yes, I'll admit it), Huey Lewis & The News, Billy Joel, Elton John, The Doors, The Who, The Guess Who, Alanis Morrisette, Bobby McFerrin, Storm Front, FRED, Chordiac Arrest, Vocal Spectrum, OC Times, Hi-Fidelity, Off The Beat, Gas House Gang, Gotcha!, The Blanks, DaVinci's Notebook, Weird Al Yankovic, Tom Lehrer, Stan Freberg, Blast!, Madison Scouts, Velvet Knights, Bluecaots, and about a million others I have stored away on my MP3 player
Movies:
Musicals, comedy, sci-fi, drama, some action. I work a couple nights a week at a Blockbuster, so I get a lot of feedback from customers and no shortage of choices. Helps me pick and choose what I watch pretty carefully in my scarce free time.
A few favorites (some for obvious reasons) are Rocky Horror Picture Show (always in the theater, though I do own the DVD), Ghostbusters, the Star Trek films, Star Wars films, Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Monty Python films, UHF, Brain Candy, Kevin Smith's Jersey Anthology, Blues Brothers, Airplane!, Anything by Mel Brooks, The Music Man (1962, not that crap they spewed forth on TV), Mr. Holland's Opus, American Beauty, Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy (BBC version was truer to the book, but the new one was amusing in it's own way)...
...and a whole slew of others.
Television:
I don't have a lot of time for TV nowadays, but there are a few shows I try not to miss: HEROES (God help he, I'm absolutely hooked, thanks to the DVDs), Family Guy, American Dad, Simpsons, Scrubs, Mad TV, Lost, and my kids have me almost hooked on Spongebob Squarepants, Fairly Oddparents, and Dora the Explorer
Most of my favorites are classics and canceled shows: Drew Carey, Kids in the Hall, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Greatest American Hero, Knight Rider, A-team, M*A*S*H, Automan, Muppet Show and a whole list of long-lost Saturday morning cartoon shows too numerous to mention.
Books:
Comedy, Star Trek, comics, and liberal political books comprise most of my library. Some of my favorites are Dirty Jokes & Beer by Drew Carey, Hitchiker's Anthology by Douglas Adams, Star Trek books, Al Franken, Michael Moore, Garrison Keillor, several old Superman comics, and a smattering of others. I don't get a lot chances to sit and read, but some books I can't just let by.
Heroes:
Rick Hartsoe (my high school choir director), my dad, Mel Blanc, Jim Henson, Dick Van Dyke, Mel Brooks, Stan Freberg, Tom Leher, George Zingali & Pepe Nataro (if you have to ask, don't bother), Jeff Oxley & Jared "Pookie" Carlson (again, if you don't know...), "Weird Al" Yankovic, Kevin Smith and Michael Moore (lets hear it for the slackers that found a niche!)...I'll probably add to this list as I think of more...
