I have been a DJ ever since I left school.Done it in many different countries but I give all the credit to DJ Henry in Uganda DJ Amos in London who actually not only Inspired me but also gave me the 1st spot as a Djay.I thought It was so easy but I almost gave up the first days coz it wasn't as easy as i thought . To cut the long story short I started out in a club as an MC in Rwanda Kigali. It was quite exciting coz I was in the lime light for the first time.The problem I got was I didn't get enough credit that I deserved as Djay in front of the guys that brought me in this game, so I had to look for another spot, I moved to Bujumbura, Burundi and that's where I proved myself.In Burundi I worked in all the big clubs CASANOVA, HAVANAH just to name a few Big up to SHAGHANI aka Dj.Mshenge . You made ma dreams come true in Burundi. Buddy , Ruddy you guys are great.Many things happened while I was in Bujumbura, I sung in a band with ma boy Chizzo. I was Interviewed on all the FM stations I was on TV and I loved it. Despite all that fun there was a war going on in the city and clubs could not open passed Midnight I can't tell you how we pulled that off but we did. My worst night was at the beach out of nowhere as we were on stage singing, all of a sudden I saw people running and gunshots were going off from all directions you couldn't run into the lake coz it had hippos and crocodiles so you had to choose your risks right, but we still had fun!!!Things were getting worse everyday and I felt I had to leave the country. When I came to USA, My 1st State was Washington DC. You can guess what was in my mind for a Job. It wasn't gonna be easy especially If you from Africa to get a DJ job in America coz people will stereotype you, but nevertheless if you good at something it doesn't matter where you come from. The 1st thing I got was a Pro CD player 2 powered MACKIE speakers and I was good to go. I was the new DJ in town for a house parties I actually had 3-4 gigs in a month for the start. I flew to Boston to DJ in the famous Ugandan Club(Kampala Club) every weekend I did a few gigs in clubs in DC too. If they didn't need me in Boston. Finally it was getting expensive for the Ticket, so I decided to move to Boston. I did a lot of Parties in Boston plus the club. That's where I met my boy Frank Bwogi who told me that he got a friend who owns a bar in Maine and needs a DJ with equipment, you can guess what my response was. I had no Idea about Maine leave alone knowing it was a STATE. Remember I had only been in the U.S. not more than a year. In the morning all my equipment was ready to go do my thing in Maine, but to my understanding I thought Maine was a town in Massachusetts, we drove for two ours that's when I realised we were in another STATE. When we got to Maine we set up our equipment at a club on Lisbon st then called MIDTOWN word had gone around that there were DJ's from Boston, I recall it was a Tuesday, We had a few problems that night with the cops. Four black men with an "accent" cruising an out of State pimped out BMW we really fit the profile, but we were cool after being detained for an hour to check out my legal Status. Guess what? for the record, I was Illegal then that makes me wonder weather those cops new what they were doing. The police station is just opposite the Club if you know this area well, so all the people were standing outside the club when I was finally let go. Now you know how I came to Maine.
