About Me

Sort Of Records has released four of my records and they can be downloaded and previewed below:
VIDEO: See Keith Tassick's video my new song Ivtto (forthcoming record) over on his blog: Keith Tassick. This video was created for the Film Kitchen video contest hosted by Pittsburgh Filmmakers.
CURRENT PROJECTS
Solo/Assembly:I have four solo records out on Sort Of Records, one of those on the Sort Of imprint Abstract On Black. The records span a range of styles, but mainly rely on pop structures and the bending and twisting of those structures. Fall 2008 will see the new DB + Assembly record featuring many folks including Owl Barns, Will Dyar, Julie Sokolow, Jessica Fenlon, Ben Harris, and many many more.
Bernabo/Masterman: We are a duo without a formal name playing improvisations for baritone saxophone and electric guitar, possibly also for voice and kracklebox. Two great shows coming up.
DBL D: This group consists of Josh Beyer, Owl Barns, and myself creating noise-filled improvisations. The name was originally Double Derek and was supposed to be a vehicle to ape Derek Bailey ideas in duo form. Our first record "Initiation of the Pulse" is now ready to be listened to. Released on Unicorn Mountain Records!
Daryl Fleming's Bloodhound and Blockhouse Band: Comprised of the amazing Daryl Leroi Fleming, violinist Megan Williams, upright bassist Justin Brown, and yours truly on piano, we have a record coming out in April 08 on Sort Of Records. The record is a great batch of Daryl's songs, recorded without overdubs, this past fall. Very intimate.
Abstract On Black: Abstract on Black is a new imprint of Sort Of Records focusing on improvised music, modern composition, electronic music, and other types of far reaching sounds. The already-mentioned Graphic Scores was the first release. It will be followed by Friction Brothers (Lonberg-Holm, Zerang, Corrigan), and then local composers Alia Musica. Fall 2008 will see records by John Berndt and a duo record by Jack Wright and Alban Bailly.
PAST PROJECTS
Vale and Year: Formed by Greg Cislon and I in early 2003, we have released five albums and three eps of songs and improvisations. Over the years, the band has included Corey Layman, Eli Kasan, Jim Wilson, members of EQ, Kelly Jones, many album guests, and currently Josh Beyer on bass. A new record, I Can Remember At Her should be released in the new year.
Woodlab: The Woodlab series lasted 6 months and produced 5 amazing compilations of mostly regional music. The series will continue in once-in-a-while shows and possibly an annual festival.
