"What lies before us and what lies beyond are tiny compared to what lies within us."
- Henry David Thoreau
There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from fear and want and that they grow up in peace.

United States
Domestic Human Rights
Human rights don't start at the water's edge--there's urgent work to be done here at home.People often think that human rights violations only happen in other areas of the world, not in the United States. In reality, human rights abuses are committed daily in the U.S., even in the most routine aspects of people's lives. The USA Program of Amnesty International concentrates on combating these types of human rights abuses, including racial profiling, police brutality, prison conditions, and abuses in the "war on terror."

Political interests: Global social & economic equality & justice; freedom from oppression for all beings (yes, even humans, heh heh); sustainable development on a global scale;
PEACE
Personal: Hiking, camping, and survival; biking, boating/canoeing, swimming, enjoying open spaces & the beauty of Earth; people/music/culture of any kind; learning/teaching through the eyes of my beautiful four-year-old, playing/writing music on the piano/guitar (not that I'm very good at it......looking for a mentor....hint hint); political murals; conspiracy theories; Celtic tatoos; geology; dinosaur bones
PEACE.
.......what if these were the most fertile regions of your homeland being taken from you right in front of your very eyes, would you step aside and submit, and watch your people die?

Music:
My musical influence is so enormous, it cannot be completely encapsulated. A large part of it comes from Classical training (my dad played First violin with the Albuquerque Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra). I am extremely partial to local, underground, and folk music - particularly punk, hip-hop, and acoustic performances. Oh! And the blues, always the blues.....

The enlightening wisdom and beauty of Vertex:
Movies:
True Romance (absolutely number 1!!), Reservoir Dogs, and pretty much anything Quentin Tarantino; Gangs of New York; Last of the Mohicans (I guess I like Daniel Day-Lewis); Leaving Rangoon; Empire of the Sun; Bladerunner; Akira and other GOOD Japanime; Killer (and other such fine John Woo films); anything with Jackie Chan; the Fallen (Denzel); Usual Suspects; Goodfellas; Slacker; Clerks; the Hitcher; the Outsiders (I guess I used to like C. Thomas Howell). Favorite actors: John Cusack and Nicholas Cage (yes, I am SO Gen X). Remember Valley Girl and Better Off Dead? (heh heh) oh, and Rutger Hauer.
Television:
The Simpsons (Homer Simpson); What's My Line Anyway? (Drew Carey); Are You Being Served? (John Inman); Black Adder (Rowan Atkinson); Fawlty Towers (John Cleese); the Law & Order seasons with Chris Noth and the wonderfully cynical Jerry Orbach were pretty cool. I really don't watch much tv anymore, but if I'm going to do nothing but sit on my butt and relax, I tend to watch the National Geographic or History type of programs so I can at least learn something in the process (alas, I AM a typical Capricorn), especally anything about extraterrestrial life, origins of the Universe, the pyramids, the Mayans, and dinosaur bones. Realms of the Russian Bear really kicks ass.
Books:
Any sociological or anthropological theory that is worth considering. I'm partial to Marx, Western/Neo-Marxists and Post-Modernists. Food for thought - Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield; The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot; It, The Stand, and Skeleton Crew by Stephen King; For fun - Mary Higgins Clark; Maeve Binchy; Frank and Malachy McCourt. Haven't done too much reading lately, I read for a living so I'm pretty burnt. But I am workin on me Oi-rish.
Heroes:
