Woman About the World

About Me

It's official. I am no longer a resident of the South. I'm a native New Yorker (big ups to Harlemworld and BK) who previously transplanted down south to work as a newspaper reporter. Since leaving NY, I've lived in Miami, New Mexico, Nashville (twice) and Bham, Al. I love to travel and have been to 100 cities in ten countries including Hawaii, British Columbia (Canada), southern Mexico, Norway, Paris, Cote d'Azur, Berlin, Frankfurt, Rome, Barcelona and Morocco.
In May, I took off to travel western Europe for the next year. As fate would have it, I have settled in Prague and am planning to live here until I get bored or can't hack the cold.
I will continue to write stories, blog and post pictures about my experiences on my own Web site at http://blog.llmetropolis.com. Be sure to check me out there too!
Here's a passage from a favorite book that also shares my perception on life, love and the pursuit of happiness.
"...Or until the moment when she began to want to know why she was unhappy.
No one should ever ask themselves that: why am I unhappy? The question carries within it the virus that will destroy everything. If we ask that question, it means we want to find out what makes us happy. If what makes us happy is different from what we have now, then we must either change once and for all or stay as we are, feeling even more unhappy.
I now found myself in precisely that situation: I had a lively, interesting girlfriend, my work was going well, and there was a chance that, in the fullness of time, things would sort themselves out. I should resign myself to the situation. I should accept what life was offering me, not follow Esther's example, not look at anyone else, but remember Marie's words, and build a new life with her.
No, I can't think like that. If I behave in the way people expect me to behave, I will become their slave. It requires enormous self-control not to succumb, because our natural tendency is to want to please, even if the person to be pleased is us. If I do that, I will lose not only Esther, but Marie, my work, my future as well as any respect I have for my myself and for what I have said and written..." - Taken from "The Zahir" by Paulo Coelho.
If I come back, I plan to move back home to NYC - I've been gone too long. But keep in mind that my plans often change, so don't hold me to it. I have just written my first novel, so wish me luck in its publication. I'm smart with a quick wit, so if you're faint of heart and can't come with it, it's best to keep your distance. Remember though, it never comes from malice - it's all luv...
What's better than saying something about yourself? Having someone say it for you. A friend mine did just that, in spoken-word form.
"You Are"
she is a drug dealer
that LLanphetamine
is that good sh*t
.....mind higher than sequoia trees
I just want to inhale for awhile please
....breathing staccato
holding her soul in trying not
to let her slip out my lungs
.....her intellect has got my mind sprung
oops maybe to forward
these blak and white images
motifs cloaking my eyes
like that pic when she's looking
over her shoulder............................
that new drug
that makes me selfish
I puff and
don't pass
and I get high.............
mad rush to the brain
psychedelic mental trip
on a non-stop train to
nashville.....yo, this ain't no Hash thrill...
this is that new sh*t
that LLanphetamine
derived from that flower the,
ailene yasmin,
that grows once and only...
in new york city.

Music:

I like a lot of the old school R&B ... Frankie Beverly, Marvin Gaye but I don't sleep on the likes of Corrine Bailey Rae, Kem, Alicia Keys, Anthony Hamilton, Eric Benet, India Arie, Jill Scott, Heather Headley, Norah Jones, Goapele, Lenny Kravitz, Christian Scott, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and more, like Das Efx.

Movies:

Where do I start? The corny stuff, I guess... Beaches, Steel Magnolias. Now that that's out of the way ... Love Jones, Shakespeare in Love, Great Expectations, Office Space, Dazed & Confused ("Well, all right all right all right"), The Matrix and Reloaded, Fight Club, Moulin Rouge, Snatch, Gladiator, Layer Cake, City of God, which in my opinion is the Scarface for the next generation...

Television:

When I used to watch television, it was primarily any kind of Law & Order, Sex In The City, Sopranos, Big Love and lots of criminal justice type documentaries: City Confidential and American Justice, etc. Comedies such as: The Chappelle Show - I'm Rick James - BITCH!!!, Chris Rock and any kind of 24-hour news channel both conservative and liberal. It's good to know what both sides are saying.

Books:

Ayn Rand was magnificent with Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead ... Then there's Michael Connelly and Dean Koontz, Paulo Coelho, Gabriel Garcia... I've just read "Suite Francaise" by Irene Nemirovsky. I'm currently reading, "The House of the Spirits" by Isabel Allende.

Heroes:

My heroes are people I talk to and call everyday. So it's nobody you'd know. And if you really know me, you are probably a hero of mine in some form or fashion, so thanks.
