A recent review im quite proud and thankful for..With support from the Patricia Rincon Dance Collective and the JCC, eight committee-selected choreographers shared the stage last Saturday in EMERGE IV in an impressive program with a range of styles. One of the most compelling works came from dancer/choreography Anthony Diaz.Diaz began dancing at age 19, and at just 22, he's already an old soul. In "Mirando Sin Mirar" (Looking Without Seeing), Diaz was technically flawless and visually mesmerizing. Dressed in black trunks, he moved with cat-like precision and delicacy through a series of personal discoveries. A dreamlike score with music by John Cage, Allesandro Laraspata, and the voice of Marcel Deuchamps speaking about "The Creative Act," was beautifully edited. In the final sequence, Diaz stood motionless, allowing us to take it all in. He then stepped slowly backward into the darkness. I love being a father to both LOLA and RAJ. I never get enough sleep. Im too busy. I have come to realize that through the pain I constantly complain about, I am able to remember that i love doing wat i do. I feel guilty, then thankful. I have been a very lucky person, but along with the opportunites offered to me, has come hard work and dedication. I am my own worst critic. A point of satisfaction is never reached, but in the end it only provides the motivation to strive towards that perfection, my perfection: as perfection is such a subjective, and ilusive idea in the life of an artist.
