"Between the monsoon and the merri-go-round"

About Me

“Raised on Soul and Motown, Stephanie wrote her first song as a toddler – a rap song that her mother still knows all the words to. Since though, and thankfully Stephanie has settled into a more acoustic-anthemic folk sound. After spending 6 months in the north west doing shows and developing her style, Stephanie has returned to Aberystywth and emerged with a sound and attitude levelling along the same plane as artists such as Ani difranco and Joanna Newsom. Throughout maintaining the integrity to not take herself too seriously along the way........When on stage, it is difficult to understand how a girl of such a small frame can stand so substantially. A sound that feels cumbersome even when it’s coming up unawares, the music controls the mood as the girl behind controls the audience – without the comfort of a signed artist’s fan-base. Stephanie sees this as the fun part, as her drive. There aren’t many who can sit and simmer down an entire squad of lairy rugby players within seconds of their arrival, without even causing a frown. This is clearly something that comes naturally to Stephanie. “It makes you work a million times harder. You’ve got to be on your toes sometimes”, she says with a wave of the hand so flippant it seems to bat the comment away......Not content with just writing and playing her material (“four albums worth of stuff, I’ll power through the fifth for Edinburgh”) Stephanie is also the founder/chief idealist of The Living Room, a Wednesday night community of showcasing live talent from as far away as Georgia, US, and as close to home as locals 9Bach and Anhrefn, who were featured on the John Peel show......Stephanie will also find herself heading to Holland and possibly Sweden during the upcoming months, so with the word spreading, her music prolifically developing, and The Living Room running strong since January, Stephanie eagerly awaits enjoying her first time on the Fringe...(Fringe Brochure 07 - by Daniel Witherall) MyGen Profile Generator
