+ TRIBUTE TO THE 80's Feat. Jamel SHABAZZ
Right here, what we’re gonna do is go back. Way back.
Journey with JuicyJazz as we travel back in time to when fresh was the style, plus the word to say. It is true that hip hop wasn’t born in the 80s, but that’s when it grew up. That’s when the underground culture blew up into a worldwide phenomenon. The 80s wasn’t the cradle; it was the rebellious teenage riot.
This is a tribute to the decade that brought us boom boxes, grills, gold chains and some of the best music ever created. LL Cool J’s mother was talking about knocking you out. Rick the Ruler told children’s stories. EPMD meant business. The elements of hip hop were being defined. Graffiti was blowing up, breakers were locking and popping. Every street cat was throwing b-boy stances. Drum machines, synthesizers, samplers. Fat laces, checkered laces, no laces. Back when it took a nation of millions to hold people back. Back when Michael Jackson was still Michael Jackson, when wearing an eye patch or hanging a wall clock around your neck was doing the right thing. Back when the sneaker salesman became the crown jeweler of hip hop, when keeping it clean or staying fresh was what it was all about. JuicyJazz takes you there. Back when.
Together with Jamel Shabazz, a true legend and the finest documenter of the urban lifestyle, we have put fresh back into power. Back in the 80s, Jamel was putting hip hop on photographic paper. Now, working closely with JuicyJazz, he’s putting 80s hip hop on a limited collection of t-shirts.
Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five proclaimed their message. This is ours. This is the 80’s tribute.
