About Me

There's not much to say about me, really: I'm a bored and relatively lazy collage student, but I am someone of a few big ambitions. For example, I love to write and I'm hoping to persue illustration and see if I'm any good at that. So, really, I'm up for trying out new things.

As far as my education goes, I'm majoring in Psychology at the moment, but am thinking of double-majoring in Sociology as well. Although everyone thinks I should just go into Film Criticism. Heck, why not even be a midnight radio DJ and a music producer, that'd rock!...Yes, I'm serious.

I forgot to mention I ramble a lot, don't I?

My Interests

Movies, electronica, alternative rock, nerdcore rap, old school punk, comicbooks, videogames, reading, writing, and a bunch of other shit I'm really just too lazy to name, but I assure you, I do have a lot of interests.

I'd like to meet:

Nobody and everybody.

I love being enigmatic! ;-)

Anyway, the "Top 12" is really just meant to be representative than literal - hey, if I could, I'd just show everyone - since there can only be a certain number of friends shown. There's people whose company I've enjoyed, creative types whose work I like, and any artist who doesn't know any better than to agree working with me (I keed, I keed!).

Music:

A ton of stuff, but I mostly have a preference for bands/artists like Beck, MF DOOM, David Bowie, Blue Öyster Cult, The Clash, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Gorillaz.

Movies:

There are always far, far too many to name when it comes to what I like and dislike. With movies, I tend to lean more towards the world of independent filmmaking than I do the mainstream (although I'm up for a good movie no matter where it comes from.) I'm also pretty opinionated when it comes to what's good, bad, and overrated/underrated.

You've been warned! ;-)

Television:

Other than [adult swim], most HBO programming, and LOST I can't stand anything that's on television these days.

Books:

I wish I was more of the literate types. Y'know: so many books, so little times. Love comics, though.

Despite such, I'm pretty willing to read anything from any good writer as long as: it's not by Philip K. Dick (sorry 'bout that...), Anne Rice, or just any of those trashy romance novels you find at an airport terminal.

Heroes:

I'm not into hero-worship of any sort, but I do happen to have great respect for some of the great minds in many of the sciences - especially those whose work was often controversial for their time.

My Blog

Reviews: Grindhouse, The Lives of Others, and Pathfinder

I've always despised the "it was bad on purpose!" defense when it comes to film. Apparently pointing out a film's horrible editing, acting, etc. will be met with such by a fan who, somehow, has convin...

Reviews (proper): 300 and Ghost Rider

I hate to say this, being someone who often defends the field of film criticism: film reviewers can be such pussies at times. I don't say this along the lines they "should" enjoy any movie that's real...

21 down, 39 to go...

A few days ago, it was my 21st birthday. To a youth in the US, this is generally a big deal because it means you can legally buy liquor from the local 7-11. I was hoping, on such an occasion, I'd be c...

Greeks, Ghost Riders, Kung-Fu Native Americans, and Phil Collins

Needless to say, 300 was very kickass.I've gotten a little annoyed over the overly whiny reviews that seem to obsess over all the speculative political material, most especially comparing it to the Ir...

Movie Reviews: Zodiac and The 300 Spartans

David Fincher's Zodiac is, by all means, a good movie. There's nothing wrong with the acting, writing, or directing involved - they're all quite solid. It should also help that the subject material at...

'06 Oscar Thoughts

Each and every year I sit down to watch the Oscars. I'm sure there're better things to do, but I do see them as important to the world of filmmaking if only that many of the nominees (and sometimes, t...

Movie Review: Smokin' Aces

Smokin' Aces is probably one of many in a recent trend: the ballistic and often frantically edited actioneer. I know, it isn't an actual category of any sort, but it explains the nature of the films q...

He-Man done right!

Can "He-Man" and "cool" be said in the same sentence? Well, unless this is the 80's or you're very much an utter dork like myself, probably not. However, a fairly talented lad by the name of Marko Dju...

Movie Reviews: Letters from Iwo Jima and Series 7: The Contenders

Letters from Iwo Jima is both impressive and very disappointing. There's many things that make it impressive such as Eastwood's directing as well as the simple fact we finally have a WW2 film that isn...
