Mama Zun a*k*a Cheray O’NealBorn in New York City and raised by artists, it’s no wonder Cheray choose to cast herself in a life long career. A poet warrior, word wizard with vocal melody, her messages speak of love, loss, self worth and a dream for a better world. Like life her words a told in cyclical tales, what goes up must come down, and always will go back up again. She was a featured poet on the 100.3 the beat ,and the voice of Indigo, a hip hop poet doll. Her underground house single ’Flow’, paying homage to the late Florence Griffith Joyner was released on Seasons Recordings as well as The SupperClub Lounge 5 in Amsterdam, Holland. Her hip hop soul alternative ’O’, an anthem speaking to a womans worth is the theme song for the upcoming Showtime Film ’The O Tapes’. Currently residing in the city of Lost Angels, she’s a magical blessing to behold. Her eclectic soulful shows with band Zun has now morphed into a powerful theatrical musical choreo- poem called Journey This. ’Journey This’ now in pre-production is a mystical universal tale of finding your path to your own self worth. It is a beautiful tale told through spoken word, melody, movement, media and live instrumentation. Not only is she fusing her creative talents with words and music but shes been both in front of and behind the camera. Most recently her highly acclaimed film ’Love Letter’, which she wrote and produced was featured in ’Sisters Doing it for themselves’ a film series screened at Raleigh Studios. It addresses the issues of AIDS and youth in America. As an actress she’s been in films and commercials, most notable: The HBO Buzz Pick of the year ’Aftermath’ and as the sears tire mom for what else...Sears. What Cheray is the most proud of, is her creative visions set forth for the next generation, the youth. She has taught both within and without the N.Y.C and Los Angeles public school system and has a T.V documentary series and an anthology book in the works. Now she can add South Africa to her list, for she spent four months teaching and producing what she calls ’ poetic theater’. She is the creator of some of the most edgy innovative collaborative artistic productions with youth in Los Angeles, and has been teaching her workshops throughout. What more can you say?
