Go Midnight Records was born fall of 2005 in a Seattle Laundromat. On my walk to get quarters for the dryer, I encountered Corey Brewer, (Triumph of Lethargy) on the street. Our casual conversation turned to business when Corey introduced to me the idea of putting out a split between A Gun Called Tension and Triumph of Lethargy both doing Leonard Cohen covers. Being a fan of both bands and having worked with Triumph previously I was immediately excited about the project. Unfortunately, I had already begun the difficult process of killing off my old label, Makebreak Records, and did not have the resources or the vehicle to put out the 7". I wrestled with the notion of trying to revive the old label for a day or two before I decided the only way to do it was to start fresh. Fast forward a few months to a New Years Eve party hosted by Mark Gajadhar (The Blood Brothers, Neon Blonde). Through out the night we discussed the new label, now named Go Midnight Records. With the same ideas of how a label should run, mutual tastes in music and a shared love of everything Wu-Tang I decided to make the label a partnership. In less than a month, Mark and I had the label up and running. From the beginning, I had a clear vision of what I wanted the label to be, and what I would not allow it to become. Go Midnight Records is an artistic co-op. All of our bands, friends and family have a voice and a stake in what the label is and what it can be. Our artists are not merely producers of a product, they are involved in every aspect of how their music is made, perceived, packaged, marketed and moved. This label is a family where everyone pitches in. Collaborations are the norm, be it through artwork, side projects, guest appearances, production, or helping each other move. Go Midnight Records, with the support of some of the most talented musicians in music today, is committed to putting out releases that are consistently innovative and original not only musically, but in the artwork and packaging. Much like our own personal record collection, the label is not limited to one genre. With our roots planted deep into punk rock and a love of hip hop we put out music that we are fans of and not necessarily the trendy new sound. This year is going to be a big year for us so keep an eye on Go Midnight Records.John Schirmer 06
