BIO: - Society Beat -With the August 2007 release of their debut CD, “Brother Luke & the Long Ride Home,†south eastern PA’s Society Beat has beaten a path from New England to the Deep South.
Born in 2006 while experimenting in their studio, Ben Longenecker and Daniel Bower have since developed a repertoire in the tradition of their song writing heroes and predecessors. At different times familiar yet comfortable influences can be heard ranging from Neil Young to The Meters. Emulating master players, engineers, and producers then applying to intelligently written songs, an original sound has been hatched.
It might be said that Society Beat is the band that many would have anticipated. Bower, drummer of the respected and cult followed, Frog Holler, is equally comfortable with a guitar, harmonica, or mandolin in his hands. Longenecker is a second generation musician whose skill on the bass and wizardry as a studio engineer have made the duo’s Moonlight Forest Studio a common destination for the area’s original bands. While the record features Longenecker and Bower playing bass, guitars, and drums, their touring band includes the drumming of Philadelphia’s Ellen Houle who completes the bands uplifting live experience.
“You can’t put two people with so many great ideas in the same place and not expect them to explode with something extraordinary,†says songwriter Tom Malm who is currently recording a project at Moonlight Forest Studio. “This is truly the sound of an all-original and refreshing rock band.â€
