The “Show of hands” movement plan
The significance behind the name "Show of Hands"
I wanted to come up with a name that artists and fans
alike could take pride in. "show of hands" means a few
differant things to me.
1) I envision hands raised in protest. The target that
we as a group are shooting to reach is a 14-28 year
old demographic. I believe that in this age group
people have the desire to make their views known to
the world. Maybe anti-war. Maybe teachers, parents,
government or simply protest for the sake of protest.
It seems to be something about growing up. Whatever it
may be, we give them the freedom to voice their
opinion.
2) I see artist and fans coming together and raising
their hands as a group. As a body of underground
minded people suporting the underdog. If that means
meeting in a dirty old warehouse for an art
show/event, we will still come together as one group.
When I plan these shows I’m not thinking about selling
art, but rather getting as much people together to
spread the voice of "underground". It’s about bringing
friends and "family" together from around the country
to meet other kids that think alike. It’s something
new. I am selling the idea of true freedom, if only
for the one night. SOH is the place you'll find open
minded artist looking out for each other and loving
each other as much if not more than we love art
itself. These show are as much if not more for the
fans than the artists.
3) I was always told by my youth pastor that no
question is a bad question, yet in school I always got
shot down because my questions seemed so off the wall.
That’s just me; I always had deep questions that the
teachers couldn’t answer. I want to let everyone know
that they have the freedom in this nation to question
things, real things, things that could change how we
live. Raise your hands and if you never get called on,
shout out your question until someone has the answer
you’re looking for, the REAL answer.
The goals of the show of hands movement.
"Show of hands" is founded on giving the underground
artist a voice. We will always stand behind that. SOH
goal is to let unknown artist get a platform and we
hope for them to spread their wings and grow, make a
living out of art. We plan to keep doing art shows in
the O.C./L.A./S.D. area. By this time next year we
plan on having groups started on the east coast,
Hawaii and Japan. The plan for is to meet with people
from New York, Hawaii and Japan and share the vision
of SOH. Let them start a family in their hometown.
Example ("show of hands east coast", "showofhands
Hawaii"ect)
Also we are looking to start up little boutiques in
most major cities around the US. These little shops
would have hard-to-find t-shirts/jeans etc. As well as
prints from all artists who have had a part with Show
Of Hands.
