My Interests

WWW.THEMOSESFUND.ORGWHO WAS MOSES KAZIBWE?At the age of 18 in 2002 Moses left his family and friends in Kampala, Uganda to come to Colorado to study computer science. His intention was to eventually return home as “the African Bill Gates” to help Africa and his friends. Everyone believed he would do it because he was super-smart, but more important, he cared. After a few months in the United States, he died of complications of sickle cell anemia. Although he was only 20, over a thousand people traveled for hours to attend his funeral. Everyone we met who knew him called himself Moses’ friend and spoke of a personal loss. His death as this nonprofit was being incorporated inspired us to dedicate our work to his memory. THE MOSES FUND is a 501(c)(3)in Costa Mesa, Orange County, California that was created to help children in Africa. They deserve all the love and caring, all the nutrition and safety that American children deserve. THE MOSES FUND would like to help make that happen and we believe you want to as well.So far our work is in 2 tiny countries, Rwanda & Burundi. They can be found in the center of Africa, south and east of Congo, south of Uganda and west and north of Tanzania. On the first MOSES FUND trip to Africa Kiro & Judy Knight visited a school in Gisenyi, Rwanda called UMUBANO III Primary School. It was the perfect first project. It was used for students before it even had a roof. By the time we got there the floors were still covered with chunks of lava and all they had for students were narrow benches and old barely readable chalkboards that sat on the floor. But the teachers were committed and worked with us. With the first $1000 they repaired under the eaves so rain and dust didn't blow into the classrooms.Parents did the work. When Kiro returned alone in January 2004 with another $1200 children danced for him him.In June 2004 THE MOSES FUND gave another $1500, in all a total of $3700. Parents crushed the lava ont he floors and layed concrete, built furniture and installed chalkboards, windows and doors. All this work was done because of the donations of mostly young people in Orange County who gave a dollar at a time. We are very proud of you.MUSICThe most recent project of THE MOSES FUND is to start a recording studio in Bujumbura, Burundi. It has taken over two years to get it as far along as it is now.On the first trip in June of 2003 Kiro and Judy met FLAG OF PEACE, a singing group and band lead by Nappy, Theophyle and Innocent. They were practicing then at their secondary school when classes were over.THE MOSES FUND has remained in close contact ever since. In the summer of 2004 Nappy, Theophyle and Innocent organized the Moses Fund CLUB in Bujumbura which with no funding has had several projects. They have visited AIDS patients in hospitals, visited mothers who have adopted street children to live with their own and tried to give them support. They have also organized street children into a singing group and a football team.By the end of 2004 we got the idea to start a recording studio for Nappy, Theophyle and Innocent and the Moses Fund CLUB. GORILLADATAGEAR donated the computer. Mike Warshaw downloaded the software and finally in October 2006 Halima Nduwimana took it to Bujumbura when she went to visit her husband. The next thing was to rent a house to house the studio. Then they had to build a recording room.In the mean time of course there are problems. If something can go wrong it will. The software was bumbed around too much on the way and has to be reinstalled, but its coming along. Within the month they should be able to get started. They have clients waiting. The house also has enough room for an office and a meeting room for the Moses Fund CLUB.By the way, "maibobo" is the Kirundi and Swahili word for "Street children" and since the profits from MAIBOBO RECORDS will fund the projects of the Moses Fund CLUB for street children, it seems like a very good name.

I'd like to meet:
