Enter Queens Pawn (QP), the voice of the voiceless, in the bigger game of chess played on the worldwide scale.Pesky (The Work), Brooklyn born, DC raised, carefully chisels the musical soundscape, which provides the background to Ali Bey's lyrical onslaught. Ali Bey of Rise And Shine (RAWKUS) fame has been on the scene for years. As a group they’ve shared the stage with Sadat X and Lord Jamar of the legendary hip-hop group Brand Nubian. Throughout Ali’s journey, he’s traveled to Europe and all over the nation opening up for groups such as The Roots, Ghostface Killah, Common and Mos Def. He’s recorded with gangsta rap stalwart, Kurupt of The Dogg Pound and the iconic hip-hop producer, DJ Premier. As an audio engineer, Pesky has tracked and recorded artists like super-producer Rockwilder and Mark Ronson. He has also worked with MTV and Sony on promotional media. Their sound is a mix of diametric opposites: experimental yet familiar, socially aware yet playful. The duo is having a good time blending different moods, experiences, and sounds.1000 Points of Light is their formal foray into the minds of music lovers. Armed with dope production and thoughtful lyrics, the group is poised to make a huge impact. Ali describes the 13-song album as “Muhammad Ali meets Andy Warhol!†Pesky sees the album upholding the 90’s aesthetic of the so-called golden era of hip-hop. With the help of the internet QP has been planting the necessary seeds that will bloom into world wide recognition, a feature in the 5th issue of online tastemaker magazine Dorkmag.com depicts the process of creating 1000 Points of Light. Urb magazine has also taken notice and recently selected QP to be a nominee in it’s “Next 1000†contest, a contest in which music fans go to Urb’s website to vote for the next 1000 artist to make noise. Their critically acclaimed song “Scams†was chosen to be featured on the Cornerstone Promotions mix tape #93, which is serviced monthly to commercial radio program directors and music industry executives.Some may consider a pawn to be of no value, but if positioned properly, it can determine the outcome of a game.
