About Me

DJ QU3ST BIOGRAPHY
Growing up listening to Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Reggae & some Pop & Rock music, Quest has always been a keen music enthusiast & at a young age he took a real interest in Rap music & Hip Hop culture.
From the age of 10 Quest was buying Electro, Hip Hop compilations & practising Breakdance moves on his mums kitchen floor, he became completely absorbed in Hip Hop music & culture, the clothes, Graffiti, Dancing & Pirate radio, it was a way of life for him & his friends growing up in London & Kent in the 1980s.
When Quest left school at 16 he bought a pair of decks & a mixer & began to teach himself how to mix.
The year was now1989, the Acid House & Rave scene was blowing up nationwide & after going to his 1st Rave Quest was hooked.
Quests 1st big event that he played at was a Rave in Kent called Exstatic in 1992. Headlining were Carl Cox, Grooverider & Loft Groover amongst others, it felt good for the young DJ to be on the same bill as his peers. Over the next couple of years Quest played out at various parties & clubs as well as going out raving every weekend, attending raves like Energy, Raindance, World Dance, Living Dream & Dreamscape.
Quest was a regular at seminal club nights Labyrinth & AWOL (A Way of Life) both in North London. He also used to go to legendary night Rage ran by Fabio & Grooverider. Quest says "AWOl & Labrynth had more of an impact on me, especially AWOL, the combination of Randall, Mickey Finn, Kenny Ken, Darren Jay, Dr S Gatchet & a special top name guest every week plus the trademark vocals of the legendary MC GQ. The vibes were wicked. AWOL was something different & special at the time, Groundbreaking!"
In 1994 Quest got a job in a record shop in Chatham, Kent called Back 2 Back Records. Through working in the shop Quest met a lot more Promoters & consequently got a lot more gigs. Most notable bookings being Dusk till Dawn in Kent & then a residency at Jungle Soundclash, again in Kent. Quest played at Jungle Soundclash every Friday along with DJ Rap, Kenny Ken, Darren Jay & Devious D who were all residents as well. Along with a special guest every week of which their was one of the top names at the time.
Jungle Soundclash stopped in 1996 & Back 2 Back records closed down also. At this point Quest found himself back to square 1.
Quest moved to Plymouth as he had family living there & within a few months landed him self a residency at a brand new club night called Jungle Fresh at the Cooperage in Plymouth. After a couple of events he was asked to become joint promotert & they successfully ran Jungle Fresh for the next 5 years, firstly at the Cooperage & then at the Plymouth University Students Union.
In January 2003 Quest became promotions manager of a new club in Plymouth called The Bus Stop. He brought Jungle Fresh to the new venue as well as established nights such as Flava (Hip Hop), UFO (Electro, Nu Skool Breaks) as well as starting up Reggae nights, Old Skool nights & other various one off music events in the venue. These nights were all hugely successful & Quest operated there for 18 months.
During all this time Quest played at many other club nights & Events & also found himself getting bookings as an MC as well.
Quest says I started Mcing by accident, it was the 2nd Jungle Fresh & we had Hype & Zinc as our special guests. We didnt have any MC so I picked up the mic to introduce Hype; everyone was telling me I sounded good so I carried on. I became resident DJ & MC at Jungle Fresh & before I knew it I was being asked to MC all over the place.
Heres some of the events Quest has DJ & MCd at over the years: Run 2 the Sun Festival, Eclipse Festival, Glastonbury, Hypnosis, Scream, Delirious, Exklusive, Life, Slinky, Bounce, Informal & resident DJ/MC at Legends of the Dark Black at the Dance Academy in Plymouth, the biggest monthly DnB night in the Southwest at the time.
In the summer of 2004 Quest was asked to host a Jungle Fresh arena at the Parklife Festival in Newnham Park, Plymouth. The Jungle Fresh tent was the busiest arena all day & night. Guests that day & night included live Hip Hop krus The Cohorts & Lower case as well as Jungle DnB legend Nicky Black Market plus Quest, Trex & Jynx, the vibes were runnin & to many people the Jungle Fresh arena was the highlight of the festival.
In September 2004 Quest & long time friend & fellow resident at Legends of the Dark Black, DJ Trex took over from LOTDB at the Dance Academy to run their own monthly DnB night in conjunction with Dance Academy called Element.
They are now in theyre 2nd year & have gone from strength to strength attracting thousands of ravers & bringing down all the leading & cutting edge DJs & MCs in the game aswell as hosting the mighty Valve Soundsystem.
Besides being busy co promoting the Element night Quest also has other residencys at club L2 in Truro & Club 2k in Penzance. He also manages to fit in guest DJ spots all over the U.K. & Europe.
Trex & Quest also have a record label project planned for 2006 called Informal Records. Informal Records is due to be launched this year with various artists involved like, Cybin (Lockdown, TOV, Emcee), Cab-E (Kool FM, Movin Shadow) & obviously Trex & Quest. Support for thyre beats have come from Blame, Kenny Ken, Randall, Simon Bassline Smith, Nicky Blk Market & Heist. Quest is one of the many unsung heroes in DnB, a true soldier to the scene, he truly lives & breathes it!
