Rest in Peace Brother...
Vigil is a three piece Progressive Death Metal band out of Onsted, Michigan. They have been together for aproximately 5 years and have continued to write complex and technically constructed songs. Their influences can be traced back to bands such as Hate Eternal, Cynic, Meshuggah, Cephalic Carnage, Dream Theater, Jazz Fusion, and several others genres.
The band formed when guitarist/vocalist Steven Eiter performed at their schools talent show with his old band and witnessed another band by the name of Archive. He was impressed with them and offered help to them to write songs. The bassist (Dustin Miller) and the drummer (Dylan Miller) of Archive had encountered problems with their current guitarist and asked him to leave. This was the perfect opportunity for Steven to fill. Since then they have build up chemistry like no other and can basically read each others minds when it comes to writing songs and music in general. They have played a lot of live shows; the biggest venue being Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac, MI. Their biggest achievements to date was winning the 2005 Adrian Battle of the Bands and winning the 2007 Addison Battle of the Bands.
Steven, 19, has been playing guitar since 1998 and sees no sign of stopping. He has been taking lessons since then and continues to. Some of his influences are Dream Theater, Death, Morbid Angel, Opeth, and Hate Eternal. Dustin Miller, 18, has been playing bass for since 2002 now is a self-taught musician. His main desire is playing bass and constantly progressing on his instrument. The bands and artists that have influenced him are Kiss, Victor Wooten, Dream Theater, Rush, Metallica, and Opeth. Dustin's brother Dylan is also a self-taught musician and has been playing since the age of 3. He draws his drumming style from many genres of music such as Death Metal, Classic Rock, and Jazz. Dylan, 16, is influenced by Kiss, Dream Theater, Pantera, Slayer, Led Zeppelin, Dave Grohl and Steve Smith.
Vigil, three open minded individuals, are hoping to bring back some classic old-school Death/Thrash Metal elements and morph them with modern heavy and Progressive Metal.
