"WATER way to have a good time..."

About Me

We are Chief Pinkton, a four piece band based in Cheltenham who play Indie Rock/Funk with Reggae/Ska breaks. We have had many successes so far, most notably playing warm up for The Automatic, The Fratellis and The Lightning Seeds at Cheltenham Racecourse last summer. We gained nationwide exposure and excellent feedback from the judges who work within the industry whilst competing in GBOB 2006 in Bristol and placing 2nd. We have played gigs locally and have built up a steady and loyal fan base. Our music is lively, energetic and dynamic and this is reflected in our live performance.
“Great Indie Anthems from the heart, with a great sound and thoughtful songs.” MLC Entertainment
“Fantastic songwriting...with huge potential”
Lansdown Studios
“Good commercial songs”
Just Productions
"Chief Pinkton are a four-piece bundle of musical diversity from Cheltenham. They make a wonderful special-brew of noise which can't be pigeonholed, but can be giftwrapped into a cauldron of indie guitar pop heavily laced with reggae and ska influences that defies comparison."
FUSE Magazine
"sounds much like a prodigiously talented Cuban bar band serenading the streets of Havana, punctured by John Frusciante-esque stadium soloing over trippy slow bits. Matt Roberts' quivering, Damien-Rice-if-he-wasn't-so-bloody-miserable croon completes the sonic representation of a thoroughly unlikely fantasy supergroup"

Review of our CD in FUSE Magazine 12/06:
"The story of this CD begins in 2004 with fourth track, 'You' for which parts of the song were recorded sat on a toilet in the home of one of the band's members in order to get the right acoustics. You'd never know unless you'd been told though as the track bears no hallmarks of an amateur recording. The other three tracks on the CD came about as a result of the band's victory in a competition which won them enough time at London's Iguana Studio to crank out three five-star songs. Opener 'So Alive' seems to be the listeners' favourite and it really comes into its own played live, as Tone Radio's listeners recently found out. My personal favourite would be 'Price Of Fame' with its simple but infectious guitar riffs and singalong lyrics. With the right promotion I've no doubt that this song would be a hit.Music listeners and producers alike should look out for these guys as I genuinely believe that they have all of the prerequisite talents for success."

Steve Deacon
Instrument: Lead Guitar
Chosen to represent the legend that is Chief Pinkton for his melodic, thoughtful, spine-tingling and frustratingly catchty guitar hooks. Steve once thought something too much and it manifested itself as a lionic food stinter..Steve later sold it on e-bay without worry for its safety or care needs...

Matt Roberts
Instrument: Lead Vocals, Guitar
Matt was plucked from the Ether to bless this world with beautifully infectuous melodies and astounding rhythm guitar work...in fact Matt was once sent to Huntleswaith Manor where he sung a thousand ladies clothes off.

Matt Taylor
Instrument: Bass
Matt responded to the challenge of rhythmising Chief Pinkton by playing ludicrously fast and astoundingly melodic bass lines. A jazz bassist reformed, Matt once spent five hours chained to a hedge where he twanged bits of bark and bird tails until almost all of the village decided he was probably not a god and sacrificed his left buttock to 'the almighty Edocraticle' for the sins caused that day.

Steve McGuigan
Instrument: Drums
Steve can make one drum sound like a thousand. His tighter than tight rhythm work is accompanied by his astounding speed and a real feel for the 'groove' of a track. Steve once noodled a pincat for twelve stiperalls and a can of untiffposs...shortly after he spat it all out until his nose bled.
