Please note: When you add us, we will check your profile. If you do not evidently have one of the below qualities, we will not add you UNLESS you send us a message saying why we should. If your profile is set to provate, we will message you if you have time. We only add bands who are openly vegetarian or vegan or are supportive and based in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. Thanks
You DO have to be:
Connected to Shropshire or the surrounding area in some way Have a belief in eating less or no meat Have respect for the dietary, consumer & ethical choices of others Appreciate that many people on this group also believe in animal rights or animal welfare campaigns and respect that.
You DON'T have to be
Vegan, Vegetarian, Piecetarian etc Have to believe in animal rights (though many/most people here will) Have to feel bad about eating meat (as long as you feel good about not eating it!
Here's some definitions, just so you know. Want to debate them or talk about which 'label' you fit in to (if any). Go to our MySpace group.
Vegan: Someone who eats no meat, dairy or any animal derrivatives. This will normally include honey. Most vegans also change their lifestyle to avoid animal tested products etc Vegetarian: Someone who eats no meat, including fish. Many vegetarians also insist on free range eggs. Vegetarians do not eat geletine, E120 and various other meat derrivatives Picetarian: Someone who eats no red or white meat, but does eat fish. Often, mistakenly called a vegetarian. Carnivore: Someone who eats meat Animal Rights: The idea that animals have a right to be treated with respect and dignity as sentinent beings, and the right not be be murdered for the pleasure or advancement of human animals Animal Liberation: The idea that animals have the rights described above, but are currently subjected to persecution and "captivity" by human animals. Animal Liberation is the philosophy that argues that animals should have 'liberty', ie: not exist for the benefit of humans. Speciesism: A phrase coined by Peter Singer: The idea that non-human animals are discriminated against for no other reason than the fact they are not human. Animal Welfare: The idea that it is alright for humans to use or even kill non human animals as long as this is done in the most appropriate and humane fashion possible.
