THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
DA DOO RON RON
THE ORIGINAL & FABBEST SIXTIES GIRL POP CLUB THE GANG THAT DIG DOO LANG
You will NEVER Hear a MALE lead vocal at Da Doo Ron Ron!
LEE HAZLEWOOD R.I.P
Established in North London all the way back in October 1998, Da Doo Ron Ron is a 60s orientated club night with a unique and highly original slant. You'll NEVER hear a MALE lead vocal at Da Doo Ron Ron or at ddrr & Her Little Sisters.
Da Doo's musical menu is a femme-centric celebration of 60s girl groups and female singers, embracing Phil Spector's Wall of Sound, Tamla Motown, girls in the garage, 60s girl pop, searing soul sisters, Northern nightingales, Sister funk, swingin' Mademoiselles / yé-yé girls etc. Expect to hear discs by girl groups such as The Supremes, Ronettes, Shangri-Las, Chiffons, Crystals, Marvelettes etc, sassy soul sisters like Dusty Springfield, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Tammi Terrell, Brenda Holloway and playful popstrels in the vein of Nancy Sinatra, Petula Clark, Connie Francis, Jacqueline Taieb, Brigitte Bardot, Lesley Gore, Lulu, Cilla and Helen Shapiro. All spun on crackly vinyl rekkids. You will NEVER EVER
hear a MALE lead vocal at DDRR!
The essence of Da Doo Ron Ron lies in the sheer danceability of great tunes. The Da Doo DJs - Chris 'Da Doo' King + Simon Bridger (Brighton Northern Soul all-dayers) - aim to fill that dancefloor! Although the majority of these epic anthems are almost 40 years old, they possess a potent vitality, with sweeping orchestral sounds, effortlessly uplifting vocals, singalong choruses and relentless, pounding beats.
The club ethos is DEFIANTLY non-elitist, which means that as well as lesser known northern soul and 60s pop rarities we also spin instantly recognisable tunes such as 'Be My Baby' by The Ronettes, The Supremes 'Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart', 'Give Him A Great Big Kiss' by The Shangri-Las and the foot stompin' 'These Boots Are Made For Walking' courtesy of Nancy Sinatra.
Indeed, Da Doo is proudly unpretentious; the discussing of catalogue numbers is strictly banned! Trainspotters and chin-strokers will be soundly flogged with a warped copy of Leader Of The Pack.
One of the truly ridiculous myths peddled by the snobby, chin-stroking "Is it on the original label?" brigade is that "Obscure somehow equals brilliant".
This is patently Horlicks!
A jaw-dropping tune is a jaw-dropping tune whether it sold a million and topped the US charts (Diana Ross & The Supremes 'Love Child' for instance) or shifted a handful of copies and was re-discovered years later (e.g The Flirtations 'Nothing But A Heartache'). It's the MUSIC that matters! Man. NOT the label!
So, for a fantabulous night of truly thrilling, goose-pimple inducing, utterly unpretentious 60s girl pop sounds, make a beehive for DA DOO RON RON.
The next Da Doo date is

Established in October 1998 (in North London), Da Doo Ron Ron is a 60s orientated club night with a unique slant. In a tribute to original 'girl power', DDRR DJs Chris 'Da Doo' King & Simon Bridger (Brighton northern soul all-dayers) only spin female-fronted tracks from the swingin' sixties and occasionally early seventies. You will NEVER hear a male lead vocal at DDRR! The club's musical menu is a femme-centric celebration of 60s girl groups such as The Supremes, Ronettes, Marvelettes, Shangri-Las, Chiffons, Crystals etc, sassy soul sisters like Aretha, Dusty Springfield, Nina Simone, Etta James, Brenda Holloway, Tammi Terrell and playful popstrels in the vein of Petula Clark, Brigitte Bardot, Jacqueline Taieb, Lesley Gore, Lulu and Helen Shapiro.
